Firewall Problem Hi Am having a problem connecting to LW. It appears to be a firewall problem. I have changed Norton firewall settings to allow Gnutella and Limewire (at least I think I have). I followed the LW guide and put in the port no (25933) as a rule permitting in/out access. My details are: 1. OS version? Windows XP 2. What firewalls? Windows is off, Norton antivirus and firewall 3. How much ram? Probably a lot 4. Hard Disk space available? As above 5. Connection type? Wireless broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear ADSL router and modem ( DG834G) 7. Where are you trying to connect from house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.12.15 and Java 1.6.0_01 9. Who is ISP? BT Yahoo 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? I have icons for frostwire and exeem lite – never used them but I think these are p2p. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. LW was working fine before, haven’t used it for a while though. Wouldn’’t exactly call myself experienced! 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes that appears to be the source of my problem, I have been banging my head against that damn brick wall for the last couple of days!! 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Ahhh now u have lost me and my ignorance begins to show… 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Just Norton I think. Would my ISP (BT) have anything included, how can I check? 16. What country are you living in? England I will happily admit I am an IT idiot, was well chuffed when I managed to get LW working in the 1st place. If u need anymore info, I’m afraid u will have to tell me where to look. Thanks in advance. Sukie |
Try Port Forwarding your router as it also has a firewall... These are your instructions... Port Forwarding for the Netgear DG834G Also BT in the UK are known for shaping p2p connection at peak times.. ::. Kitz - ISP Caps, FUPs and Prices .:: |
U were spot on. Sorted and back in action. :super: Many thanks. Suki |
