Download Problem - Let's Take a Specific Example

HI Guys. I've been using LW for a while and the first 6 months i had no complaints. Of course some files were bad and others crapped out mid download but i had a high % of successes. The past 3 months, however, have been disastrous. Music is generally not a problem but tv shows and movies are IMPOSSIBLE.

I know all of the fixes some of you noble people trying to help out have posted.. changed settings, delete connections, yadayada. I keep seeing the same problem being posted over and over again so i thought it would be REALLY HELPFUL if I gave a specific example of some of the issues and it would be AWESOME if someone who's not having such issues try the same queries and downloads and see what happens. Perhaps it's just me or perhaps there really is a huge issue these days with LW.

Here it goes: I am trying to download episodes of *******************
1) if i put ************in my search i get thousands of files. Most are not for this episode even though the search seems pretty specific to me. I try downloading any of these files, whether it's actually this episode or a different one and all result in Need More Sources no matter how many connections i delete.

2) if i put *************in my search the same problem as above doesn't happen. Instead, i have a new problem: These files in the past have been 350MB but everything popping up is 350KB or less. Seems very suspicious to me. Also, i get a lot of zip files. The concept of a zip makes sense (shrink large files) but they seem to be exes (executables) and have suspicious titles such as "bittorrent downloader".

3) Here's the final part that drives me even crazier: in the first search, i get a file called *************. Ok, not exactly the same as my second search under which this file didn't show, but ok no problem. I start a third search *********and a fourth search of *********** (LW won't let me add anymore letters) and guess what the file doesn't show up! How does this make sense? When i try to download it from the first search i get need more sources and when i try searching for it with a specific search for that file it doesn't show up!

ok, so there you have it. If someone knows how to resolve these specific issues i bet all of us having download problems would benefit because i have a hunch we're all having similiar types of scenarios.

Thanks for the time.

Jason

Another interesting tidbit: I did a search each time of the connections that LW gives me each time i delete the old ones and everytime the list of files that show NEVER include any of the files i'm attempting to download. Wouldn't LW be hooking me up with connections that have the same file? Otherwise, how exactly would such a host help even if he/she's legit? Another strange observation....

I changed ISP and now can't download anything.

I switched from Verizon to Cox and before I had a "turbocharged" very fast up/down load speeds. Now, when I try doing a search, nothing comes back, and I get a message saying "Waiting for a stable connection" There has been no change in my computer, programs, hardware or otherwise, except for the new modem to the new ISP (Cox) I can reach the internet just as fast as before, my emails work, internet searches are fast, but I can't "connect" to LimeWire. The firewalls settings are the same, so technically, it all should work as before.

Can someone help me, Please!!! :bangh:

Fausto G.....Cox are known to block p2p....

Executivej you sound like you are only connecting to fake files..

Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)
Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2

If you're using Vista, there's this PG2 Beta available for Vista users.

Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...This will block known fake IP addresses...

The TechNutopia Fullsize Hostiles List for BearShare and LimeWire

If that fails try using a torrent client like utorrent....;)
