Always says Could Not Download. I don't know if it's my computer or if I'm behind some sort of firewall (I don't know if I am or not) , but every time I try to downlaod anything it says searching... then says could nto download.:( I don't know whats happening but when my sibling also tries to log into Morpheus it says that she cannot register due to firewall problems and I am thingking this could quite possibly relate to one another. What should I do about this so I can actually download files? |
I agree I have seen exactly the same operation with 2.1.3 Pro, arround 9/10 off attempts fail with a "could not download". I do have a firewall running but even 4 star results (No firewall) have this same behaviour |
Facts: (1) using LimeWire 2.1.3 on Mac OS X (2) I am not behind a firewall (3) I do not select IPs that are red (i.e., IPs behind a firewall) (4) I tried (and failed) to find the answer at the gnutella's forum for the answer (5) 99% of the times I try to download, LimeWire tells me "Connecting to ..." and then "Could not connect". Your help is appriciated! Thank you, Zevi. [email]*** |
"Couldn't Download" since installing "new" LimeWire I just installed the new Limewire -- banner ad's and all -- and now everything I click gives me "couldn't download" too. I'm on a cable@home connection on Mac OS X and had the previous LimeWire woring just fine a few minutes ago ... if anyone can help please e-mail me at: [email]*** and I'll be your best friend. At least the new Limewire has a direct menu-link to this forum though ;-P EF |
Could Not Download I don't always get the "Could Not Download" error message. Sometimes the downloads come through quickly and efficiently, and sometimes the searches immediately give me "Could Not Download". How come some of them do this? |
me too - 90% Could Not Connect Me too to paraphrase: "(1) using LimeWire 2.1.3 on Mac OS X (2) I am behind the OS X firewall - Brickhouse activated (3) I do not select IPs that are red (i.e., IPs behind a firewall) (4) I tried (and failed) to find the answer at the gnutella's forum for the answer (5) 90% of the times I try to download, LimeWire tells me "Connecting to ..." and then "Could not connect". " Using a cable modem and Comcast. Morpheous under VPC works fine. Before the upgrade to 2.1.3 the GUI was flakey but I had more consistant downloads. Now the GUI's better but the downloading SUCKS. I was going to upgrade to Pro - but will now wait for a more reliable version. What's going on? cg ----- (Amazon's pro forma profits last quarter were $35 million.) Amazon attributed the profit to gains in its international units (yes, Virginia, there is a global economy) and to cutting of costs in a variety of ways, including switching its servers over to Linux. (That move prompted a wonderful quote from a Microsoft spokesperson in a News.com article: "With Linux, customers end up being in the operating systems business, managing software updates and security patches while making sure the multitude of software packages don't conflict with each other." And just how would that be different from Windows? |
Just let it soak! Like a solution for stained laundry, what worked for me with LimeWire was patient soaking. I launched the program, and let it run in the background for a few hours (with connection "on") while I was doing other work. I don't know if it will work everytime or for everyone, but it worked for me. Subsequent searches were fast, and 90% of the downloads were successful. Even red ones (behind firewalls.) I am having the same problem. I am running Mac O/S 9.1, NOT behind a firewall, using a dial-up connection, do not click on red IP's. I have yet to successfully download ANY kind of file from LimeWire. The most current problem is that it ALWAYS says "Could Not Download". HELP!! I am getting frusterated! |
I still have Limewire 1.7 on my hard drive, so I launched it today and was able to use it successfully (even downloaded a few files!). One thing I noticed, though, was that in the "Connections" tab of 1.7, at least 6 incoming hosts are shown, whereas in the new version, only 3 incoming hosts are shown. What is the difference here? Does "incoming" refer to the downloads, or the searches for shared files? And does "outgoing" refer to the uploads ...or downloads? |
Newer versions use UltraPeers (protocol v0.,6) instead of the classic gnutella model (v0.4). With UltraPeers, you are connected to many more hosts at one time while not wasting any bandwidth. Only relevent searches are sent to you, and since the traffic is greatly reduced, the search horizon broadens drastically. Incoming or Outgoing simply refers to the idea of "who initiated the connection." If you initiated it, it's called Outgoing, and if someone else initiated it, it's called incoming. You can still increase the number of UltraPeers you connect to in the New UltraPeer versions of LimeWire (2.x and later). Best, |
could not download I've gone through the forum and sadly, see no answer to this problem. I am running Limewire on a Mac OS 9.2 and on a Mac 8.6; I connect fine, I can search fine, but can't download a thing. I am behind a firewall that should let the ports through on one Mac; the other Mac I am not behind a firewall and am using a dial up modem. I have had no luck with either and am in search of another program that would actually work. As for upgrading to Pro, I might be willing to do that but not before I can get this one to work. |
Message to Limewire I just sent an e-mail to Limewire about their lack of action, or even response, on this issue. You'd think we would hear from them as this is their "official" support forum. Ryan |
I have had no problem downloading. In fact I downloaded twentyfive songs today using a modem. The only problem I have had is since Limewire is made of Java it eats up ram like there's no tomorrow. |
I've had these sorts of problems with the 2.1.3 PRO version of LW on Win2K. I.e. I can connect and search okay, but I rarely get a successful d/l. I either get "Could not download" or "Busy" (and this waits indefinitely). Don't get me wrong - I expect to see these messages on occasions, that's just life on the gnutella network, but not all of the time! I have reverted to version 1.7c and I can d/l without any problems. Having bought the PRO version for features like ultrapeer, swarming and even little things like the repeat search facility (which is a God send) I'm a bit ****ed off that it doesn't work. |
Server Dead Today? PVS (Post-Valentine Syndrome) Is the server dead today? Can't search, let alone download. I'm on T3, using Mac 6320 (OS8.6), and running the latest version of LW. It's been bad all day so far. Someone kindly confirm. Thanks. |

Could not Download Linux I have the same prob. The first time I installed LimeWire I could use it only one time!!!!! The second time it always says: Could not download. The same effect with the new Version (2.1.3). The first time I used it after installation and downloaded a few songs. The next day I couldn't download. What the hell is going on???? System: RedHat 7.2 |
ditto! I have the same problem mentioned above with 2.1.3 after an upgrade from 1.7. just wanted to add my weight... I had no problem before, even when running purely NAT'ed (though obviously I could not upload then). Now it either doesn't work at all (tries for ever getting 'waiting for x busy' and then eventually gives up 'Could not download') or (once so far) it works fine. Bizarre  My specifics: running WinXP on a fairly fast machine, behind an Alcatel Speedtouch 510 ADSL router, running NAT. I've port forwarded 6346 to my desktop, and forced my IP to the real external address. Obviously, I am also not downloading from private addresses. I also noticed the Windows command line stuff is really slow when Limewire is running (eg. command prompt, telnet etc.). Not sure if this is related, or if it did this with 1.7. Someone must have an idea? Andy |
so far everyone is just saying they have this problem! I have this problem too, but i have downloaded more than 100 files, before it started doing this. Now i can only download mp3 files, and sometimes they wont even work. if ANYONE has a solution, please email me! [email]*** Thank you so much |
