Finding Rare Music

I've been searching for a song by edited to conform with the forum rulez entitled, "edited to conform with the forum rulez". It is very rare and since I've only allowed .mp3 results there are no matches. I've filtered out extensions which might carry the song, such as .mp4, .m4a because some of these extensions have caused problems for fellow LW users. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
read the rulez....no personal information allowed...even if that really is your name not someone you wish to get in trouble

There are some edited to conform with the forum rulez albums at "The Pirates Bay" and you will probably find also at "IsoHunt", try also at "Mininova". These are torrent sites and you will need a torrent download manager like "UTorrent" to get them off. Limewire handles torrents but have not found it to be quite there yet on my system.

Try varying your search techniques. Vary your search terms, use different type of search also such as general. Even shorten the search terms. Or search just for artist or song.
If I were searching a very rare song for personal use, I'd temporarily take limitations away from filters as you have done.

This is a list of all the keywords I have filtered - if I should add more or remove some please be sure to let me know.

.mid
.ogg
.ra
.rm
.rmj
.wav
.wma
.m4a

Just an assumption, but I'd say that .mp4 files are better than .mp3; also, I've noticed that it may not be necessary to put a period before the file extension you're trying to filter.

Thanks for all your help and keep me posted on more tips,

I often filter out .wm
Other people may have more suggestions. ;)

I think it's safer to put a full stop before the extensions. You never know what files you may accidentally filter out by not doing so. eg: words like -> midway, middle, wave, timid, arm, elektra, & other names, etc.

If possible, try searching at different times of day. People come & go all the time from the network & you will find different results over a 24 hr period ... and over a 7 day or 14 day period, etc.

I've noticed that .mp4 is not showing up in search results even though I did not add it to the filter list. Wonder why? If .mp4 files are any better than .mp3 then it'd be worth downloading those files. On the other hand, if some users have had problems with .mp4 files then it's not really worth it.

Thanks,
Andrew Perkins

I can say for certain that .m4a files are not playable on LW's Media Player-this has probably already been stated before. It's kind of weird only having .mp3 results, but then extensions that are no good (junk, or whatever) won't be worth adding to your music collection. If there are any new extensions or extensions that don't cause problems please be sure to let me know. At least one or two more would increase the chance of finding the file I'm looking for.

Thanks for all your help - keep me posted
