Downloading problems (no search results)

There are no search results showing. Removed firewall, still not working. What do I do?

Is your LW connected (all green/blue connection bars)?

If so, try these fixes.
1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).

This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

If LW isn't connected, please give us your details.

It says it is connected when I click on "file" but down on the bottom left there is only one bar that is green and it says starting connection. It also says "limewire has detected a firewall" my firewalls are turned off. When I type in a song or name no searches results come up, but it shows the green bar as it searches.

You'll have to sort out your connection problem before LW will be able to search properly!

First of all, make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall & that LW's being allowed through it.

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).

This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Some people have had connection problems with certain Java versions. You can either try updating to the latest version here (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

I don't use McAfee, but have a look below.
Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center

If that doesn't help, use Google to look for info.

Nothing is working. Lime wire still won't connect. I have windows vista, (LW) is 4.14.10 pro, Java 1.6.0-oem. Connect with broadband. Right now I only have windows firewall. ISP is Roadrunner from Timewarner cable. Live in US. I had Norton. I am connecting from home. This is a new problem with Limewire that started at the end of last week. I just recently upgraded to pro which sucks because I can't use it so it's a waste of money. I did the test and it said "Your test worked" and there is a firewall in front of the world at the bottom, but my firewalls have been turned off and Limewire is on my list to allow through the firewall. What else can I do to make it work?

birdy November 18th, 2007 05:03 PM

Did you update your Java & delete LW's preferences folder (see post #4)?
You'll know if you deleted the prefs folder properly, when you start LW it will go through the setup wizard again.

ccj November 20th, 2007 05:57 PM

I don't know how to do it. I have Windows Vista. The directions given didn't help me. I don't know how to delete LW's preference folder. I did update Java.

birdy November 20th, 2007 06:18 PM

Look for this folder C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire. The folder named LimeWire is the preferences folder.

Don't forget that you have to show hidden files & folders first. Did you look at this thread? It shows you how to show hidden files & folders, and how to find the preferences folder.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html
After that folder's deleted, start LW & see whether it connects.

If deleting the prefs doesn't fix things, you could also look at the advice here about replacing the gnutella.net file.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-fix-try.html
That refers to Win XP, but it'll give you the general idea:) You'll need to open your preferences folder (named LimeWire, the same one that you deleted before) & replace the gnutella.net file which lives inside the folder named LimeWire.

Remember that when deleting preferences or replacing files within the preferences folder, LW must be properly closed.
