moe (downloads won't play)

Frustrated, confused, down and out. Well I've about had it. I've been playing with this limewire thing for quite awhile now and have gotten nowhere. It looks like the download was successful. But what good is it if it won't play!!!!! I've used a satellite hook up and dial up. Nothing. I have unchecked the LW player. I have win xp pro. If I can't get it soon I guess I'm done. Thanks.

Moved from Phex forum.

What player are you using to play them with? Try opening the file directly from your player by directing it to the location the file is. If it's a video file, then you may be missing the correct codecs to play the file. I'd recommend trying this player: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

Sometimes LW can be fussy about launching files if they are not shared.

(BTW I know about the frustrations of using LW on dial up, I used dial up for over 2 & half years with LW. I've heard Satellite may have its own issues, but should at least be faster.)

Downloads won't play

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier Lord of the Rings. I downloaded the other player you suggested and my downloads still won't play. I tried a couple different things but nothing. I say's the downloads are complete. There is a couple minor things that did change by getting VLC but still a no go.

Thanks,

Moe

What types of files are they? What are the file extensions?

mplante March 6th, 2008 08:07 AM

I tried the same download 3 times as an mp3 and tried the same cut as a wma. The cut was [Edit]. It say's that they have been downloaded and that they are shared files. These titles do not show up under the library tab though. When I select one of these cuts and press launch, the launch window opens for the player. When I push the play button the window expands down a little bit for a split second and then goes back to the way it was and nothing happens. I don't know where your located but would it be more helpful if I gave you a phone number so we could talk it thru. I don't know if that would work. Never thought that I'd have this much problem with this. My brother in Maine has I don't know how many downloads and he has no clue what my problem is because he never has had anything go wrong from day one. Thanks.

Songs download, but won't play

Hi

I'm having the same problem - about half the songs I download into my Library won't play - even though they show in the Library! And I can't delete them without rebooting. Those I can play, play beautifully.

All the songs are MP3s - my anti-virus won't let me play .wma songs.

I've downloaded the VLC player, as per LOTR's suggestion (and link), but it unfortunately doesn't appear to have solved my problem.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can suggest. Thanks.

IS IT A VIRUS? i'm having troubles too. i downloaded a file accidentally (oddly enough, i was searching for "Somewhere Under the r...cut off here in case of copyrt...iz" and the file came up with those exact words. It is a video of "cute girl having orgasm." I have been unable to either delete it, move it, or open it. Is it a virus?

can anyone help me get rid of it?

limewirejb&shea 1st ill try to help.google unlocker [free trial] works for me. 2nd sometimes my downloads for no aparent reason. gives me 2 of the same download. one of them has 0 bytes. go into your LW saved folder. check for duplicate files. if you have 2 files hover your curser over. 1 should have 0 bytes.delete it.usually have to use unblocker.right click file. left click unblocker. allow i trust. drop down box delete [kill all proccesses] or something like that. good luck hope i helped somebody :Smilywais:

Well guy's, that's it for me. I tried the very few things that were suggested by a couple people who responded. Thanks to you. But unfortunatly I was very dissapointed by the lack of help or suggestions that I did receive. Don't know what to tell you shea. It looks like I did get "the young girl having an orgasm" deleted but I can't be sure. The problem now is I want to uninstall LW from my computer (had enough) but it won't let me.

And kenny111111, I looked at that unblocker thing and apparently I must be more computer illliterate than I thought because I didn't find anything there. Thanks for the try. Wish LW could have worked for me.

downloads won't play

Hi

Thanks for the tips Kenny 111111.

Have downloaded Unlocker, which unfortunately shows that the file I'm trying to play isn't locked - so that's not the problem.

And the file doesn't have 0 bytes, but as many as a song should - so I guess it's not that either.

Would appreciate any other tips from anyone.

Thanks

Normal way to uninstall LW is go to Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. But LW must be turned off.

Some songs on network are deliberately corrupted and spammed onto the network. See mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes (click on link). This might explain why you can't play them. The bit rate versus file size is an issue you need to take into account sometimes. (BTW ignore the reference to T3 connections.) I still do check for that because it still applies.
