Music duration only 1 sec but file size several Megs

Hi
I am having trouble with downloading music from Limewire whereas the file shows that the download is successful and is several megs in size and yet the duration of the track is only 1 sec and of course doesn't play. How can I over come this or convert the file into a useful download? Thanks
