Problem Uploading

Ok i found aload of songs and films on an old hard drive i had lieing around so thought i would put it in my pc and share with everyone on limewire. I setup limewire to share the entire hard drive and in my library tab there it all was all the songs etc etc. Thousands of files. I checked to makesure limewire wasnt behind my firewall which it wasnt. I thought so far so good!

I then got my friend to search for one of my files to see if he could find it and he couldnt which i thought was rather odd, I also left the pc on for over 24 hours and never had one upload.

Can someone tell me why this could have happened??

I wish that I could tell you and help you out. Since downloading the newest free verion of Limewire a week ago, I have not been able to connect Limewire. The connection bar remains at 1 bar. This is so upsetting. I feel that I have tried everything. Any suggestions on how to get a connection and download.

Well to be honest i have never had a problem connecting to the network. Are you in university / college halls of residence by any chance because if you are then it will be blocked by the admin

No, I even checked my firewalls

thats very odd, sorry im unable to help you. Try going back to an older version of limewire for the time being.

As far as the initial upload problem, you have to set up Limewire to share this drive, otherwise nobody "outside" can see the files. This is so your personal and private documents and files stay that way. Go to Options > Sharing and set up which drive and any particular folders within it you want to share. If it's all of them you can just define the drive letter. Then refresh Limewire (go into the Library tab and click refresh) and try getting your friend to search for one of your files again. I hope that should work. You should also define which other folders on your computer you want to share so that you don't end up sharing something you'd rather not!

Regarding the problems with connecting, I have had the same problem myself. I think it's either to do with your ISP blocking or limiting peer-to-peer sharing networks like Limewire at certain times of day, or the Limewire network itself being overloaded.... but more likely to be the first option. For example, my ISP gives me a 1GB max download limit, but unlimited downloads overnight between midnight and 8am. Yet if I try to log into Limewire immediately before or after midnight, it will not connect properly. My only suggestion is to try again at another time. I do believe that if I leave my computer on overnight it will connect at some later time during the night and start to download. The other option is to contact your internet service provider about the problem, but as P2P file-sharing is often dubious by copyright standards, you'll have to judge for yourself whether this is a sensible course of action. It's useful to non-specifically email them and say you're having problems accessing the Limewire network, do they know anything about why that could be? You could also ask them what their policy is on P2P networks. I know my ISP limits them at busy times.

Try putting all the folder you have on that drive in a folder. Then choose to share that folder + all subfolders.

Another thing that may be the reason is that an entire drive takes a long time to be hashed for sharing depending on size.

Try having your friend direct connect to you and see if he can then see the files.

We can guess all day long but really .... we have no info to work on.

It sounds like you are running more than one software firewall ... bad ! Firewalls clash with each other resulting in LESS security not more. And will also have other side effects. Turn one off and allow LW full access on the other one. :)

Limewire not uploading, sharing 100 files, 10 - 15,000 hits per file

ok i dont know whats going on but this is really weird. Im sharing about 100 popular applications on my machine that i have collected over time and basically i left limewire on for around 24 hours and went back to check it, each file had around 10 - 15,000 hits each but not one upload. Does anyone know why this is as its really weird, there popular applications so should be wanted.

Any ideas??

You think it might just be limewire and i should try a different p2p program?
