Downloads that do not complete ? Any CODEC packs that help with .avi previewing ?

I have two questions if anyone can answer.
1. Sometimes I have about 90% of a download, turn off the computer and start Limewire next day. Download will back up to say 68% and then will never finish downloading? What gives?
2. Is there any codec available which will allow you to preview an avi.?
