Downloading ,, good speed but progress frozen

Dear All,

1) I have a funny problem, I have been trying to download this movie for quite a while , and since my free internet time slot of from 1 AM - 7 AM :D. I start LW and go to sleep, but in the morning its always at 72 %,, so today morning i started downloading when i could watch what's happening,, and it looks like the download is frozen at 73 %, it did move one percent though,, what could be the reason,,, ?? :shoot:... It is downloading even now while i write this message, and the estimated download time is 1 hour,, let me wait for an hour and see what happens,,

2) there is another thing i wanted to ask,, i can never preview my video files,, Windows media player opens up but the file doesnt get played,, be it .avi, .mpeg whatever..

Are you sure it's a good genuine movie file?
Have you done the obvious things and scanned it with a good up to date antivirus application to check that it's not some vicious virus of trojan.

It does seem to be a genuine movie, 697 MB . But perhaps the file is corrupt as though the file is downloading, the download bar doesnt show progress (where it normally shows in %),,, perhaps i should just cancel download and forget it,,,maybe the file is corrupt,,

download frozen

my download got stuck at 70 %. actually it first went up to 99 %. Then in the most absurd way it went back to 70%. the bar hasn't moved an inch ever since. it seems to be downloading at a good speed but shows no progress. it's the second time the same problem happens to me. the other time was with another file.

Amlanwildlife May 10th, 2008 10:13 PM

Yes, yes, actually the same thing happened to me,, :yikes:,, i had thought that it was an optical illusion when it blipped in 90% or was it 99% and then it had gone to 72%,,,who would have believed me,, what could it be,,, i am giving up on it today,, will cancel that download,, the downloading is happening,, but progress doesnt get shown,,,

Somebody anybody ,, please help,,:confused:

I've heard of downloads going backward before, not sure why. Others on the forum might know. Check your incomplete folder & see if there's more than one listed that is the same title or same download (title might be slightly different.) Sometimes LW starts a new incomplete file for some odd reason and has always had that issue.

BTW are you sure it's the download % or it might actually be LW attempting to check the validity of the file after it has completed downloading and it finds some data (might only be a few bits or bytes) does not match that of the original download hash which was downloaded at the time you selected the file to download, thus LW continually attempts to redownload those missing bits or bits that might be corrupt or different to what the file should be. I am aware sometimes people change the tags on their files after downloading & sometimes this can affect the people who are already uploading from them.

For previewing, I'd recommend either or both VLC & MPlayer. What you can do is select incomplete folder in your Library, press Explore button & find the file and choose open with ... VLC for example & see if it opens. This technique or Launch button has the advantage it does not create a Preview file in your incomplete folder, unlike when using the Preview button option. ;)

Oh good! I thought I was going mad. This keeps happening to me.Music files are fine, but a few movie files seem to stick at a percentage or go backwards. At the moment I have 2 files which jump between 27 and 28%.So,are you saying there is nothing we can do about it?Bit of a bummer.

hi i have had the same problem with my files freezing at a certain percentage this has occurred a couple of times now with avi files around 700mb.. the problem happened after i shut down my computer, when i restarted my computer the files progress didnt move

but i have had 2 - 3 files that have had the same problem at first and then started to work, this was after i deleted the files from the incomplete folder a couple of times and restarted my computer and downloaded them again and again then after a while a corrupt file message shows up and the file started to download as normal once the download was complete the file was playing fine. im still experiencing this same problem and deleting the files isnt working anymore so if anyone knows how to fix this please help.

btw i have uninstalled and reinstalled limewire multiple times and my operating system is win xp

thanks..

For some people, for some reason their LW is slow to shutdown properly. Do a control-alt-del to bring up the window to show if LW is still active or not before shutting down computer. Wait until it does close down, else I guess you can force quit it however that may muck up your download prefs as you have been having. If the latter is the issue that LW is not closing properly, it may be Java related & the version of Java you have is not working the best on your system. Something else you can do is: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link) which will speed your LW up rather dramatically. Apply that to those files of zero download % or files of less than 200 KB for example.

Make sure LW is set to close immediately. Go to Tools -> Options -> System Tray and check this option.
