Sorry, I've no solution either. I just wanted to say that I hope you'll get an answer. I have the same problem. I ripped lots of CDs, share all my downloaded files, but nobody wants them. Not one! Perhaps they all want only those magic "T1" or "T3" connections. Our DSL might be to slow in comparison to those. Or whatever.

Try offering something other than MP3 or rare tunes not usually found around on the net.

For example, if you're offering Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird, that file would prolly never get downloaded from you unless you are on a T3. Because everybody and thier sister is offering that file on the net and they have T3 lines. So as a downloader that sees tons of Free Bird files showing up in a search, why would they download from a slower source?

Solution... Try to offer what's not offered at every turn. I'm offering OGG files now (only ogg). When I connect, within 5 minutes somebody or two is downloading various OGG files from me. And these are files that are popular from ever turn in MP3 format. Not only that, they are getting them from over a modem connection that is listed as a modem connection.

Basically, I'm saying, "will more ppl please start offering ogg files. I'm having a hard time keeping up with demand."

problems with uploads

I also had problems with people uploading from me. Some of the reasons I discovered were:

1. Some versions of Limewire had problems with uploads, I think 1.7 had problems. Might be an idea to upgrade your version of Limewire.

2. Your filenames may not contain the words people are searching for when wanting that file. But be careful irrevelant words in the filename causes a lot of bandwidth wastage as ppl d/l irrelevant files.

3. What everyone whats is good quality files, large variety, rare files, and also comprehensive collections on a particular topic. I have decided to make available for upload a few comprehensive collections of only a few topics covering material that is searched for but not easily available.

Most of this is bloody obviously, but I suppose newbies might consider these thoughts when looking at what to offer for upload.

are you behind a firewall or a router? If so, then a lot of people won't be able to see you.

I'm having the same problem. I did see one person try to upload a couple files from me, but both uploads failed. I loaded Gnotella on the same computer and had hundreds of clients successfully uploading from me. It almost looks like LimeWire has decided I'm an undesirable client from which to upload, which should definitely not be the case. I'm on a cable modem with 384kbps upstream.

I am behind a firewall, but I can configure the firewall any way I want. Does anyone know if I need to do anything special with the firewall to get it to work right with LimeWire? I already have ports 6346 and 6347 being forwarded to the LimeWire machine.

Limewire has a kind of bug. In the options dialog, upload, slots. All the three fields are N-1.
So If you want to have one slot open, you have to put 2. For 2 open 3, and so on.

Hope that helps!
