It starts downloading then stops why? I have been using limewire for ages to donwload files and recently it has decided to stop. I get files from btjunkie to open in Limewire (the newest basic version) and although it says each file is downloading from various hosts, the KB/s reads 0. At first the KB/s starts to tick over and you get a time saying how long it will take to download, then it will go backwards and get to zero and stop. This has never happened before. Limewire is open in all my exceptions in various firewalls etc, so they are not stopping it. What is going on? Any help would be appreciated. doogie01 |
Firstly what is btjunkie and what do you mean by those files will open in limewire ??? |
btjunkie btjunkie is a torrent downloader and you can open them using limewire. It has been working brilliantly for weeks, now it starts working and then stops after a few seconds. |
Try going to your Connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it... Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more... (try to take note of the hosts IP numbers if the same ones keep re-appearing add them to your host filter...) ;) Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply... Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;) Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2 If you're using Vista, there's this PG2 Beta available for Vista users. PeerGuadian 2 for Windows Vista beta released - Phoenix Labs PeerGuardian 2:Manual - Phoenix Labs Wiki Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...This will block known fake IP addresses... I have exactly the same problem, my download starts but then within a few seconds the kb rate slowly moves down to 0 kb/s :(. Please help. I just installed that peer gaurdian program and my download improved slightly for a little bit but all the while still droppping to zero and getting stuck there. On 0 to 2 to 5 to 2 to 0 kb/s at a time for hours, I've grown pretty frustrated. You see, I'm trying to get this 700+ mb mpeg file(DS9) that I want so bad in my labtop but at this rate I'm not sure if I'm ever ganna get it seeing as how I'm only able to download this file if the people who has this is online(which I could tell is not that many having to wait days at a time before I could continue with the dowload again :( ). No matter how high the download rate fluctuates to, why does it keep dropping to back down to zero kb/s? And it's only with this file! All my other downloads were fine no matter how large it was never behaved like this. Can somebody out there tell what's goin on, like the previous person who posted above I've also been dowloading(mostly ST episodes) for quite some time and I've never ran into this problem before. Please tell me what I can do to fix this. |
Are you using limewire to download torrents ?? Is it a torrent file that is giving you the problem ?? If yes....Don't use limewire for torrents, it's hopeless, try using utorrent... The file maybe a fake....Have you checked the comments on it, either through Bitzi or the site that you selected the url ??? |

I wanted a movie from 1967. I searched via LW for years with no luck until I finally found a torrent and had LW try to dl. After about ten days of waiting for the dl, I tried uTorrent, and got the movie in a couple of hours. uT seemed to take up most of my bandwidth, so I switched to Azureus. Download speeds are good to begin with, and when you get your share ratio up to 0.9:1 or better, the downloads get even faster. Thanks to Remoc for showing me the path. :aweof: |

I'm using Limewire version 4.16.6 and you'd have to forgive me but I'm really not familiar with the word "torrent"(I don't really know what that means). Why does the download rate fluctuate like this?( moving up and dropping to zero). Of all the files I've downloaded, I've never noticed this kind of odd behaviour before and I'm pretty sure it's not a fake file considering these are the kind of files I've been downloading for quite some time and I've grown familliar to what is and what isn't. Heres an example of one of my most recent completed download(S**r T**k V*Y - 4x01 & 4x02 - End Game.avi), not a fake. The one I'm downloading now is labeled roughly the same and it's patricaly the same size. Can you tell me the best settings I can use for both Peer Gaurdian and Limewire to best optimize download?(how many lines should I allow, upload settings etc.) Because my current dowload is pain-stakingly fluctuating in and around the 5 kb/s margin(very, very slow ), and if I get lucky(which I get allot by the way)the download stops and displays "waiting for busy host". Then I'd have to select "resume download" again which resumes the download almost right away :(. |
Maybe you just have really bad hosts on this one...Or it's some sort of fake...You should always check your files with Bitzi before downloading... How to use Bitzi Web Lookup .. & How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect/Browse/Chat To optimise your limewire settings have a look through this thread... Maximizing upload/download Success LimeWire If you want to give torrents a try have a read through this What is a torrent? and then install utorrent (it's about the easiest to understand when you are just starting out).... µTorrent - The Lightweight and Efficient BitTorrent Client Also have a look through the guides at Peer Guardian for the best configuration setup... ...great, thanks for the links. You've been a great help..:xeri_ok1ani:.... One quick question if you don't mind me asking. To my understanding, (correct me if I'm wrong but)to use programs like utorrent you require the URL first in order to download the file right, is there even such web sites available to where I can find the types of files I'm trying to download(ST episodes) in Limewire? Please, if you know some place where I can find better and more diverse selection than what Limewire can provide it would be very much appreciated. |
