Default Out Of Sync Downloads

Hi guys, this may not be the correct place for this and the Limewire forum is probably not the right place AT ALL! BUT....

I am having a major crisis. Something I have downloaded and cannot find anywhere else is out of sync HALF WAY THROUGH! With me having OCD I cannot burn it like that but I am a total noob and don't know how to correct this. I have virtualdubmod and I can split things with Windows Movie Maker (please suggest an alternative free application because WMM adds grey letterboxes instead of black and again I cannot burn with that!)

Could someone give me literally a step by step (mouse click by mouse click) run through of what I need to do to correct the situation.

Thank you!!

hey, no-one replied but not to worry. I figured it out myself!! 'Video X' was out of sync half way thru and this is what i did-

the files were already .vob files but you could burn the out of sync vid and then rip to get these or split the vid at the point it goes out of sync (windows movie maker) either way- the VTS_02 file was the one causing the prob so i converted all 3 (VTS_01/02/03) into avi files (separate avi files with Any Video Converter- free app) then i opened VTS_02 with Media Player Classic and found the audio delay by going to PLAY - AUDIO - OPTIONS tick 'audio time shift' and tried different numbers til i got -500 (minus 500) with this delay the segment became in sync. (stop the film and play again to check) then i loaded the out of sync one (VTS_02 AVI FILE) into virtualdubmod (free app) and went to STREAMS - STREAM LIST - right click the audio stream and click 'interleaving' - in Audio Skew Correction type the number you found (i found -500) then click ok. right click the audio stream again and choose full processing mode, right click again and choose compression (i selected mpeg layer-3 the bottom option) then click ok. then on the main screen go to Video and choose direct stream copy. then File, Save as and choose a name! you now have in sync segments. But i wanted to put these segments together before burning so this is what i did (it's kind of the long way round so...)-

i put all 3 avi files on the windows movie maker storyboard in order (obviously) and clicked on publish (choose 'for this computer') this gave me a whole film. if you're not happy with the aspect ratio you can do this-

DO NOT DELETE THE WINDOWS FILM

convert back to avi with Any Video Converter and load the avi into MPEG4modifier (free app) choose 'custom' (bottom right) in the left box type 640 in the right box type 352 (for wdscrn) or choose whatever size you want then save and the finished result will be a whole in sync movie in widescreen (some of the sharpness was lost due to all the encoding but it is PERFECTLY watchable) however, the burned result was 'bigger' not full screen or vertically stretched just 'bigger' (letterboxes pushed right to the top and bottom edges) so keep the windows movie and burn that if any probs with final film.

if anyone can tell me a quicker way plz do cos this was just my own tailor made way of doing it!!

I misread your first post, I had thought you were talking about audio files for some odd reason. But yes, splitting VOB files by separating the audio & video can result in out of sync. Not the best way of dealing with VOB files. But in your case you said you obtained it with it being out of sync for one of the vob files.

Converting to and from mpeg 2 to another such as mpeg 4 then back to mpeg 2 (DVD format) will result in loss of quality at each step since mpeg is a 'lossy' format, it throws away information to help it save & reduce file size.

A handy video tool I sometimes use is MPEG Streamclip but is most useful if you have QuickTime with the QT MPeg 2 codec. Please read the windows or mac information before downloading this program as vital information is included about Quicktime or quicktime alternative.
