Seeing any brick walls at bottom of the LW program interface? Or a blue world icon?
Sounds like bad ultrapeers else, ISP interference.

ckaiser27 August 30th, 2008 09:22 AM

i see a blue world down under the search area that has a brown thing over it that says lime wire has detected a firewall. If this is the case how come it never messed up until now?

ckaiser27 August 30th, 2008 09:23 AM

yeah i guess yes it does look like a brick wall over the world icon, how do I fix the problem?

I am having the same issue. I have windows XP. I do not know how much memory I have, I know it's alot, per my husband, connecting via DSL from my home. I just updated limewire to version 4.18.6 - what can I do to remove this brick wall? The only firewall type thing I have is Windows Live OneCare, never had any problems until I updated limewire. Thanks for the help!

Problem with Searching

Hi Everyone. I managed to solve the problem I had with connecting by loading the Gnutella thingy but now I seem to be having a problem with searching. What happens is that for instance, I have tried downloading EDIT. The first two I downloaded had things on them which prevented access to the movie. Advertisement type things and such which would just not allow access so I had to delete them. Now I find that if I do a search for the same movie name more than once what is happening is that at the top of the screen where the search name is x EDIT 21/564 for instance and all I am getting showing is the 21 results. What happens to the 546? How do I clear previous searches. Are they put into a memory somewhere? It is quite frustrating because you don't know that those ones you have downloaded are 'corrupt' until they are finished. I am pretty green about all this and would really appreciate any help that anyone could give me. My computer is playing up (what's new?) so an email replay would be fine on EDIT I would be so grateful for your help. It would be so nice to find a resolution on the first day of spring which it is down here in Australia...:o

You sound like you may have picked up a virus or some spyware with the bogus files you downloaded, you should run a full system scan just to make sure....

These threads will give you a few tips on downloading safe files...

Problem with Searching

Hi There, Thank you so much for your response to my plea for help but unfortunately that won't work. You see, where the search results show at the top of the screen like this:
The **EDIT** 21/1421
only the 21 results show and the 1421 are nowhere to be found. I have done a scan and there was one Trojan which deleted. I did a second one just to be safe and that is clean and tried again. Unfortunately it has not cleared the problem.
As to the Bitzi. I am afraid I am not very computer literate but have looked at everything. As you will realise though, if the results on the right hand side of the forward slash which are the good ones aren't showing, there is no way you can right click on something which isn't there. It is as if something is filtering out the previously shown search results and they are just not anywhere because they flash up onto the screen and then just as quickly disappear and that right hand number increases so that you have a huge number of results somewhere but where? And almost none showing. I just couldn't get the Bitzi to work. I couldn't register.
Sorry I am such a nincompoop! It is so frustrating when all I want to do is download a movie to watch and can't even do that because there is something else wrong with my computer and the sound sort of jerks.
And on top of all that, I am a disabled pension who is literally financially destitute and who can't afford to pay anyone to help me fix it all. I am housebound and rely on it so much but it is playing up. It all makes life a bit miserable.
Thank you again.:(

Problem with Searching

Hi Again,

I finally got to get Bitzi to work and that is really good, but, as I said, it doesn't explain why I am having this trouble with the forward slash dividing two numbers and only the first number of results is showing but the second number is enormous in comparison and those results flash onto the screen and then disappear. I will certainly be doing a Bitzi check on any file before I try downloading it in the future. So thank you again for that but it hasn't resolved my problem. I have put in a support request to see if they can help so with any luck someone else will have had the problem and now I am going to reboot again to see if doing it once again may make a difference. Trouble is I am too scared to lose the results I have because there is just one there that came up on Bitzi as good and I don't want to lose it.
I am glad you spied me with your wandering eye. :)

If you are recieving 21/1421 that would mean that 21 files where found and there is 1421 peers sharing them....Now you also have to take into consideration the fake files , so in the end you could end up with no legit results at all...

Problem with Searching

So what you are saying is that that situation is legitimate? I don't understand because when I first did searches on **EDIT**, for instance, I got something like 40 or more results and there was no forward slash with a figure after it. I have finally got a copy of it. It has subtitles but it is the English language version and it is a good quality copy. Why is it that results will flash onto the screen and then disappear and the right hand number increases? I just did a search on **EDIT** and it is happening there, too. Why has this never, ever happened to me before? Why have I just received results and a single number and I go through the list and choose which one looks as though it will be OK? Now it looks as if every search I do is going to be that way even if I haven't done a search on that title as well. Yes, I had the two bad versions of **EDIT** which I had to delete and it was after that that this business of the title showing with the two numbers divided by a forward slash and results coming up on the screen and then disappearing in a flash and the second number increasing by that number? Why has that never happened to me before? I have had Limewire for about three years and never has there been a search result which shows two numbers next to the title divided by a forward slash. And certainly never have results flashed onto the screen and then disappeared in a flash. I have never done a search on **EDIT** and it is happening on there. I am really confused. I have removed all Limewire from my computer and done a virus scan where there was a Trojan. Did another scan which was clean and then reloaded Limewire. Last night when I started downloading one result, all of a sudden the virus siren went off and I received a message telling me that what I was downloading contained a virus so I stopped it, deleted the virus, again deleted Limewire, scanned again and then, for the second time reloaded Limewire from Update and still this is happening. The most confusing thing is why do the results flash on the screen and then disappear with the right hand number increasing as if that result has gone somewhere. I understand what you are saying about all the junk which I keep on trying to trash, especially all the empty files (38.5kb for instance) and I have found out before about getting bad copies of a movie because it has happened before and I have just done another search without all those probems I have mentioned, chosen another one and downloaded it, usually being lucky and getting a good copy. I really do think something is really wrong but I can't get rid of it. I know my computer is playing up but I would have thought that by deleting all Limewire and then doing a virus scan should have resolved the problem (rebooting before reloading Limewire). I am so grateful for your help but I don't think what you have said has picked up the problem. Search results don't come up on the screen and then disappear or they never have to me before. Thanks very much for your help though. I really appreciate it because no one else has given me any responses and I have now used up 80% of my month's peak download and it is only 4th September but when I managed to "catch" a result that wasn't junk, I grabbed it, but with downloading Limewire three times and so on, I have used 80% of my peak download and will now have to work between midnight and midday to download anything. Bleh...:(

You really need to stop naming the files as it against the forum rules to mention downloading anything with a copyright attached....

Let me suggest trying these tips in regards to your searching...

Try going to your Connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...
(try to take note of the hosts IP numbers if the same ones keep re-appearing add them to your host filter...) ;)

Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply...

Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)
Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2

If you're using Vista, there's this PG2 Beta available for Vista users.
PeerGuadian 2 for Windows Vista beta released - Phoenix Labs

PeerGuardian 2:Manual - Phoenix Labs Wiki

Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...This will block known fake IP addresses...
