Strange download problem.(no search results)

I connect to Lime just fine. In fact another computer I have here connects just fine thru the same router. When I start LW on this computer everything looks fine. I type in the name of a band in the search engine. Up at the top you see a little horizontal bule bar getting filled in...just like everything should.

The problem is nothing shows in the list of songs to download window......The 'data' or info window that tells the song name, connection speed, etc.

NOTHING!

Does it happen all the time or only occasionally? Make a note of the file sizes shown. There are many spammed files on the gnutella network & some are viruses posing as mp3's or wma files. ;)

* Music Files with no bit rate showing are almost always going to be spam.

* Music Files that show bit rate but very minimal id3 tag (or LW description tag) information when you hover your cursor over the file in the search results may be spam depending on file size usually.

In example image below, the top search result was via searching a rubbishy term. The second was via searching a legitimate music file (file name withheld.) Make a note of those file sizes. ;)

What I do is right-click the search result (control-click for mac users) & choose to ban those hosts. Of course they have large networks & dynamic ip's, however getting rid of several from spamming your results will help to bring in proper search results. I recommend only searching song title or artist or album. Do not search both else it tends to invite spam. ;)

Go to Tools > Options > Searching > Lisence Warning and make sure the box is not ticked and select apply...

If that does not help try going to your Connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...
(try to take note of the hosts IP numbers if the same ones keep re-appearing add them to your host filter...) ;)

Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply...

Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)
Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2

If you're using Vista, there's this PG2 Beta available for Vista users.

Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...This will block known fake IP addresses...
