Default Infected Files

Hi All, newbie user - windowsXP, 4.18.8, cable

Trying to open files (all five star quality) using winRAR - every time I get a message saying the file contains trojan horses or adware - and the unzip operation comes back with the following:

Cannot execute "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX00.593\S etup.exe"

I have tried the same title 20 times but always get this message.

Hope somebody can help

Best Regards

Heaps of files shared on the network are infected... especially .zip, .rar & .exe files. The star rating means nothing, unfortunately...that's just an indication of connection quality - not of file quality

Always check files with Bitzi before download - if other users have rated the file then you'll get some idea of content & quality: How to use Bitzi

Even if the file doesn't have a Bitzi rating, it may still be infected.

You're very lucky/smart to be using an AV that picks up nasty files. Many users aren't so fortunate
* WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of ! *

If you're a new user, it might be good to read the LimeWire FAQ and User Guide , just to get some more info.

Birdy - thanks for that: for other users out there I use AVG anti-virus, anti-adware which is available as a ************ from AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista . I have found this to be a very reliable method of keeping my computers safe the last couple of years.

Well if you havn't figure it out yet-when yahoo purchased Musicmatch ( the original) that's when I started having a major problem with Limewire Downloads! I download one song at a time now and check 'Preview' to make sure that the song is not a virus and if it is I simply try to cancel download before completion. Now that Yahoo has sold it's Yahoo Jukebox to Rhapsady who knows how that will affect Limewire Downloads. I think one solotion is for Limewire to delete all downloads showing a Yahoo Colored Icon. Sure this would affect a lot of music but it would also perhaps save clients from downloading a lot of viruses.
