I would strongly suggest using another program for downloading torrents, limewire is to unreliable... Try utorrent it is very user friendly and easy to understand...;) |

Hi Micky. Here is a Beginners Guide for Torrents that is Very Informative and will give you a good idea how Torrents work. Beginners Guide To keep LW from initiating the Torrent Download, go to Tools > Options > BitTorrent. UnCheck "Start Automatically" Apply > OK. Real quick here...uTorrent is a Torrent Client. Demonoid is a Tracker. You'll perform your Search in Demonoid. When you find a file you want on the tracker, Click D/L this Torrent and uTorrent Should open and start the D/L. Hope this Helps. :) |

I have unticked the start automatically box and it still wont let me download with utorrent and my downloads are also stuck on limewire please help thanks |
Hi Frannic93 and :welcomeani: to the Gnutella Forums. :) Try this. This will basically make uTorrent the Default Torrent Client. Hope it works for you. I'm sure there are other ways to do this but this works for me. If using XP... Start > Control Panel > Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Now Arrow Down until you see Torrent File. Left click on said File Type to Highlite. Click Change. Now Left Click on uTorrent. Place check...Always use the selected program to Open..... then Click OK. :D |

HaHa, Sorry you're stuck with Vista. :p After a quick search I found this link that may be of some help. Control Panel - Programs As you know I don't use Vista but the above link looks like it may be where the File Types and Default Program Settings may hide. Hope this Helps. :D |
still not letting me do do it but thanks very very much |
All I can think of is a workaround. Uninstall both Limewire and uTorrent. Then install only uTorrent and make it default for torrents. Then download a torrent using it, before you install Limewire again, this time making sure it has nothing at all to do with the torrents. I'm sure there are other better ways though. |
I am also having problems getting connected to the torrents (only 2nd time in 6 months) I have downloaded but this problem as well as connecting at LW opening seem to go away on thier own. I have tried using Utorrent and other torrent clients and thier download speeds are atrocious. LW might be unreliable but on the DSL line I currently have I get almost the max upload speed of 350 kpbs compared to Utorrents or bit torrents 3 to 10 kbps on a good day. Simplest way to make whatever torrent client your default is to open that client and download and open torrents from there. This doesn't really make it your default client but if you download torrents using LW it becomes a Limewire torrent ( check a torrent you've downloaded with LW and it reads LimeWire Torrent) and that is why the torrent opens LW automatically.:gimmimore: |
