Downloading bitTorrent has hosts but 0KB/s Hi I was downloading a bitTorrent for several days perfectly (till 94%) next day i jump onto computer wait for a while but doesn't download even though i have 2-3 hosts. It simply has said 0kb/s for the last few days......what can i do?????? THX |
I think the Best advise myself or anyone else will give you is, Don't use Limewire to D/L Torrents. Most Torrent trackers Ban Limewire. Better choices for Torrent clients would be uTorrent or Azureus, now called Vuse. I guess the only thing you can do with the present D/L is to just continue trying to get it to finish. Sometimes if you pause the D/L and Restart might help. You can also try to search for more hosts. |

What data is being sent? Will firewalling not interfere with uploads? |

But yes, some torrent programs have advanced settings that disallow hosts from downloading from them if their share ratio is lower than a certain %. Unfortunately LW does does tell you your share ratio. Patience can be a virtue. ;) As with many others, I use an alternate torrent program; Azureus. |

It is one of a few recommended clients on every private tracker. It sends exactly the data it's supposed to the tracker, no more no less. |
1 Attachment(s) Have a talk with Kasperky labs then. The program continues to work fine with this component disabled/blocked. I didn't say it was sending bad data to trackers, I said it was sending hidden data (most likely phoning home to Mommy). I see that Sleepless edited out my original comment, which was obviously about the hidden data being sent out. The attached image justifies my views. The old Azureus (not Vuze) did NOT get this message. What data is being sent I honestly don't know, but I for one try to keep any outgoing data strictly as needed, and apparently whatever data this is (again, probably phoning home) is not needed to interact with trackers as my program is working just fine. Any pundits are free to do as you wish. Go ahead, let Vuze call home and tell them every file you've downloaded, legal or not. Be my ever loving guest. I have it blocked and will continue to do so. As opposed to for all effective purposes deleting my post, why didn't you just add in your snide comment as opposed to trashing the original concept? |
Do you call this a relevant post. "Be aware that Vuze sends hidden data out which must be blocked via a firewall". Propaganda is not wanted here. I changed the comment, because it was quoted just below. Vuze has been checked over and over again for every version by the coders of various sites that I belong to. I mean coders that don't rely on some signature database done by an Antivirus company. Vuze sends lots of data "home", like version info, loaded plugins etc. Depending on the way you use it, it might also connect you to search databases, Vuze homepage torrent releases and all sorts of other things. It does however not send info home about what torrents you are downloading/seeding. Many of these features can be disabled in the interface as well. Take e.g. mine, which has DHT disabled, by not loading requred plugins, Auto update check disabled, media player disabled. Pretty much anything not needed for downloading and sending through private trackers is disabled. |
To be honest I've been a bit sus about the information Azureus can potentially send too, especially when you need to sign up for certain aspects of its use via the program itself. Encrypted is it .. how well exactly. |
So what you're saying Sleepless is that I don't know how to configure my client as you described (no updates, etc) before I let my mouth piledrive up my butt with my statement. That's a mighty big assumption there. Since I have configured my client to work with only the basics, perhaps you would like to tell us all just exactly what the hidden data trying to be sent is? Are you willing to swear on whatever holy book you ascribe to (if you aren't religious I guess your favorite pron mag will suffice) that : Quote:
I suggest you do a little research as to just exactly what the modern Azureus (Vuze) is and how its being run with consideration to legal aspects before you make such pompus statements as "He is blowing smoke out his @ss". I won't bother holding my breath awaiting the proof of your statements as I'm sure I would turn blue and die. |
The source was open for anyone last I recalled. So if anyone would like to check it out, be my guest. The only content available directly through the Vuze interface (guessing that's what you mean) is either free license material or material uploaded with the copyright owner's blessings, so even if you have to sign up for it, it is perfectly safe. Haven't tried it personally, since I get my content elsewhere. Actually I disabled anything Vuze in Vuze. There is a version 4 now, where you can choose to not load anything Vuze at all. I'm just waiting for all the sites where I am a member to allow it before upgrading. It is said to have a smaller memory footprint than all previous versions of Vuze/Azureus. I have zero tolerance for these crap antivirus package vendors, that make up threats just to keep the customer happy. How happy would most people feel paying for something that does nothing. Not a single (fake) alert all year on their subscription. Seriously one of those major vendor even blocked one of my favorite sites for weeks, calling it a virus threat. If not for massive amounts of complaints it would probably still be in their database, filed under malicious sites. |

This is P2P, where people have to be careful, in case you forgot that. And no I haven't checked anything myself. And I say again provide proof instead of propaganda. I don't have to prove a thing here, you have to prove this as this is your claim. Any crap AntiVirus screenshots are not proof. Show us incriminating data in packets you intercept and that is proof. |
All this Back and forth sounds like a Good Reason to use uTorrent to me.:) |
All this back and forth sounds like one side is a flame. I'll give you three guesses which one ;) Oh and one last thing Angmar. Be sure to use some popular easy to find file for your tests, and include all relevant info like IP address sent to, to size of package, exactly what incriminating data, hash values of the file. The works. And of course Vuze version, port numbers and anything else you can think of to let others be able to duplicate the results. Time online, how long the torrent was loaded in your client. How often this phenomena occurs etc. etc. |
For years I was asking people if they knew anyone who bought antiviral software that reported an uninfected computer. I never got a "yes" response. After the birth of antiviral software companies, (but prior to the internet), the largest freeware/shareware distributor in the US offered a reward to anyone who would send them a virus on disk. They had no takers. I met people who insisted that their computers had been infected because their antiviral software told them it was. Some of those people did not have a modem, and loaded only commercial applications; ergo there was no vector (route for infection). Nowadays the internet provides a vector and there have been a few epidemics. So I was thinking about writing an antifungal program. Because if you've had a viral infection, surely your computer is less resistant to fungus. And of course my software will verify that data fungus was present and has been safely removed. I wouldn't tell people that software was suspicious just because an antiviral told me so. We've seen too many false positives, leading me to ask for specifics. When it comes to open software, show me the code! |
Hi could you explaijn a bit more =) Hi i dont really get were i can include alll relevant info like IP address size of pachage etc... help pease TY Quote:

unless you are on a dupe account with Angmar as your other identity, that post was not directed at you. You have already had your question answered over and over even after making a dupe thread asking the exact same question. Start here: Beginners Guide to torrents. |
Finally :) yes it will. If you find the same torrent now and start downloading it, you will see of there are any seeders (People who have the complete torrent). Also uTorrent should have the option of seeing availability, in case there are no seeders. i.e. if it says 0.94 or 94%, then you know exactly why you are not getting the final 6% of the torrent. Also if you see there are seeders, but you never connect to them, it probably means that you aren't on a open connection (either through portforwarding or UPnP), and also that they aren't either. Pretty much they only reason why you will never connect to a seeder is if both you and the seeder aren't connectable (open connection) i.e. the tracker can see the seeder, but your client can't contact it. |
