My Limewire is not searching

I have been using limewire for years now and I have never had a prob, but now when ever I search, no search results come up, it completes the search but there are no results, it doen't matter what I type in, I had version 6.14 andthen updated to 6.18 thinking that would help but it didn't.

Just when I needed it the most lol

qtpie November 19th, 2008 03:31 AM

please help!

Ditto! I have had this same problem so often I can't count. So, usually, I uninstall and reinstall - again, and again and again. But, yeah! I search. It tells me I'm getting results, but nothing displays. WHAT UP WITH THAT!!!!!

I'm getting REALLY REALLY sick of installing uninstalling, reinstalling un, re, un, re-installing and NOW nothing happens!!

I really like Lime Wire, most of the time, but this is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi stclair55,

Did you try all of the fixes that I posted in reply to your first thread 2 weeks ago Exploding Head! (no search results displayed) ?

If people don't reply to their thread, we assume that they've either fixed the problem or decided to move on from LW. If people have problems with the fixes that we post, they need to tell us:blink:

Is your LW connected properly (all green/blue connection bars)? If LW's connected, try the fixes below.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it's ticked , untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.
Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If LW's not connected, try the fixes here.
If LW Will Not Connect
If nothing there helps, please post back with your system details.

Sorry ... I don't check my emails on a regular basis. But yes! I've tried all the suggested fixes and still no results. In many cases, those are my settings and it still does't work. So guess I'll just un- and re-install. Again. I've been using LW for several years now and this has been a chronic problem. Is there a "one time" fix or not??? I love LW (read "free"), but this little glitch is very frustrating.

I just tried a fix I found from "wondering why" (And I THANK YOU!). Go to Tools>Options>Filters and select the Host Filter and enterthese IPs and then select "apply":
204.11.219.225
204.11.219.226
204.11.219.227
204.11.219.220
204.11.219.231

I did this and now have mega results.

THANK YOU "wondering why" or whoever you are!

I am aware Charter is not an especially p2p sharing friendly ISP. Problems 'might' be related to Charter.

Deleting your LW preferences might help.

Occasionally removing the occasional Ultrapeers from your Connection window may help to remove poor behaving or spam UP's. Especially those that are older than LW 4.18.8 version.

I have heard searching the same thing over & over can for some odd reason get your specific search temporarily banned from a particular Ultrapeer. So waiting several hours or until the next session on LW might fix that.

Edit: seems WW's fix worked for you. Good to hear. :)

(BTW the reason I edited out your email address is to stop the people who scan forums for email addresses to sell to marketers.)

Thanks for "editing" my email address! And, yes, at least for now, WW's fix seems to be working. I'll keep your tips (and anyone else's!) in mind for future reference.

Happy Holiday!

GENERAL 1 December 20th, 2008 08:14 PM

Have you tried Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link). This might be slowing your LW down with too many incomplete files attempting to find sources whilst your search happens.

:w00t: Lord:

Lordy lordy lordy!! WW's fix worked - once. But now, tonite, I go to LW and once again: No results. So I went back to your advice and OMG what have you done to my computer??!?! I uninstalled all my Java and renstalled, offline= per your suggestion, and now everything looks like Ms. Pacman. I uninstalled & reinstalled LW and still can't download. So, as a last resort, I tried a System Restore, and I keep getting an error msg telling me the system was unable to restore to an earlier date. And I've tried it like 3 times! So I've reinstalled Java (ON-line) so at least my graphics are cool, but I still can't get LW to download any tunes. You "sound" knowledgeable, but it's f***king up my system. I'm almost afraid to ask if you have any more suggestions!!!!!

And, oh yeah I almost forgot to mention ... at one point in my "uninstall-reinstall-follow-your-directions gig, I reinstalled LW and it suddently showed all my incompletes at 100%. Not! What up with that?

Hi, I use Limewire also, and have had no problems with it, except when I was IE 7.0. I have since uninstalled it, and again find it working just fine. I've downloaded many different type songs.
Don't give up.

Sorry to hear. Nothing I suggested would have caused that if you did it correctly. And I never suggested doing a system restore, that was 'your' idea. So send blame where it's due. :p And a merry xmas to you too. :p BTW break the forum rules once more & Birdy or myself or another moderator may just react. You have been warned.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes I've heard IE 7 is not well designed, does not follow same protocols as almost every other browser on the market. Nothing unusual for M$ to muck yet something else up. lol :D

EADragongirl December 27th, 2008 01:26 AM

Limewire is no longer searching

The exact same thing is happening to me.

1) I checked my java and it's the latest one
2) I tried this
Go to your connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...
It is also wise to go to your Filters, to find this go to Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply...
204.11.219.225
204.11.219.226
204.11.219.227
204.11.219.229
204.11.219.231
and that didn't work so I tried
3) I just can't seem to find my .limewire file no matter how hard I search. I am running WinXP

Limewire was working just fine yesterday and now it's just up and decided not to search. Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance :)

Lord of the Rings December 27th, 2008 02:55 AM

.limewire was for the older users.
Go to Connections window, get rid of any ultrapeer that is not LW 4.18 by selecting them & removing. Do it one by one though otherwise you will lose connection. Those are more likely to be spam or trouble-some UP's. Then see if search results improve. :)

EADragongirl December 27th, 2008 03:02 AM

where is the connections window??

OK I'm feeling a bit dense here. What connections window are we talking about?

Lord of the Rings December 27th, 2008 03:04 AM

lol I wondered if you might not see it. Go to View menu, Show/Hide -> Connections. :)

EADragongirl December 27th, 2008 03:13 AM

How to I know which ones aren't LW 4.18?

There's a whole pile there....? Thanks for telling me where to look! :)

Lord of the Rings December 27th, 2008 03:51 AM

oh ... sounds like you might be in Ultrapeer mode if more than 10 connections. Sometimes ultrapeer mode can affect searches. You can try disabling Ultrapeer mode & see if that helps. Tools -> Options -> Performance, check Disable Ultrapeer.
