Default How many files can you share?

I read in the newsgroups that limewire cannot handle large number of shared files. I have 6000+. Can limewire handle this or not? This may explain my occasional hangs.

Thanks

...are they real files or are you one of those trusting people who let the gnutella type prog share their entire HDDs.

do a search for cookies.txt and you get 500 to 3000 hits.

on a more rational note I have shared up to about 3700 ziped books, music and pictures at one point.

The only problem is a vastly increased startup time as limewire caressed each and every file.

unless they include a static database for these SHA hashes that are talked about this will only get worse.

the database might be held in memory now which could be a problem if all of your files are mp3. Limewire will caress each one and pull its id3 tag so that 'extended' searches will work.

if these are kept in memory there could be buffer or java flakieness.

-bye now!

I share my mp3 collection. I converted my 400+ cd collection to
mp3 several years ago. Needles to say many more people pull from me then I pull in return. The program does not run all that well. I do have a 1 gig of memory but I don't know if java runs out of memory anyways.

I was sharing over 3000 files and found LimeWire would eventually grind to a halt, consuming 100% of the CPU and about 100MB of memory. I dropped it back to about 400 files and I've finally been able to keep it alive for almost 24 hours without it bringing the whole system to its knees.
