Question Movie has sound but no video

hi, i am so new to this, its crazy. i dont want to embarrass myself or annoy you pros with silly ?s so i am trying to read through all sorts of old posts to try and piece this all together,, but i do have a problem i havent yet seen discussed on the forum: two things we downloaded, a show in avi and a movie in DvDrip-axxo (??) come up in WMP without video. hmm... the movie also plays in quicktime but with no video and jumbled sound. we tried opening them in ITunes also with no luck at all. all these different file versions is confusing. i am using a PC with vista, a wireless connection, and 4.18.8 version of LW.
other things we try to download take SO LONG to do anything. is that normal? we did get two things so far completed, but we gave up on other stuff that was taking overnight to load like 20%. that doesnt seem right.
thanks,
didi

CODEC's for WMP is what you need. We recommend getting a backup player, VLC which has built-in codecs inside the player & can play almost any video you will come across; see CODECs list for Movies/ Alternate players / Video help forums

As for iTunes, it has certain requirements as to what formats it can import. See How to transfer to my iPod (& iTunes) - for video for more about this.

Downloading videos can be slow. You can only download as fast as the speeds & upload slots that are available at that time. In some cases you may be downloading from a partial download (someone who is downloading same file but doesn't have 100% of it yet.) Search again periodically to try to get fresh & new sources to download from, also use the 'Get More Results' option by right-clicking the search results tab.
