Download % progress jumps backward and won't go forward more than a %

...then it jumps backwards a %. I just downloaded the latest version of Limewire and am encountering this problem. It appears to be downloading but it can't get past a certain point. I've seen this twice so far.

birdy December 25th, 2008 06:14 PM

Check out this thread.
Download percentages % going backwards! Why!
:)

The Bobster December 30th, 2008 04:00 PM

I'm now trying to down 5 files using the newly installed Limewire, They all went to a certain percentage, then stopped, went backward a % or two, then went back up to the same %, then back down....

WTF? This almost never happened with the old Limewire.

The Bobster January 1st, 2009 06:41 PM

I deleted the preferences file. I then tried to load 5 new files. When I shut down Limewire, one or more will lose ground. That becomes their bottom value. Then it goes up to the previous value and falls back again. This sucks. I want the old Limewire back.

Lord of the Rings January 1st, 2009 07:20 PM

Corrupt downloads happens with the earlier versions too. Perhaps you didn't notice it or simply didn't have any problems. :)

The Bobster January 2nd, 2009 09:44 AM

I had one over 2 years.

Now every download I try is having this problem.

The Bobster January 3rd, 2009 09:44 AM

I've now deleted the preferences folder, uninstalled Limewire, reinstalled it, installed the latest Java and tried to download two new files. Same ****, different day. They both hit a wall and count down backward a %, then go back and forth, up a %, down a %.

Lord of the Rings January 3rd, 2009 09:47 AM

So you did as advised elsewhere & chose your download from a 'different' source ... a different option in the search results?

If you wish to go back to an earlier version LW, go ahead, nobody is stopping you. Earlier versions are available if you google for them. :)

The Bobster January 4th, 2009 08:16 AM

I Googled Limewire 4.16 and retrograded. Problem solved. Limewire 4.18.8 is a buggy POS.

Lord of the Rings January 4th, 2009 11:22 AM

I am using LW 4.16 but get corrupt files occasionally. That's what I meant by it's not a version issue, at least for me. Perhaps it was for you.

The Bobster January 4th, 2009 11:39 AM

I knew what you were referring to, but Limewire 4.18.8 was the problem, not the downloads. The upgrade was randomly corrupting incomplete files when I properly closed it. EVERY file ended up corrupted eventually. I never got a complete download with it.

BTW, I wouldn't upgrade if I were you.

Lord of the Rings January 4th, 2009 11:44 AM

I used LW 4.18 & the alpha on a different system. It seemed to be ok. But I haven't used it that much, was only for testing.

Cant use limewire anymore

Been using Limewire for years now all my downloads jump back after a certain point , cant be bad files , tried downloading a second cope of 5 avi films i already have completed .Downloaded latest version 5 and then uninstaled it and went back to 4.18 and did this twice on each version so thats ruled out also. I dont see the point in continuing to download as problem starts above 30% or 40% . tried everything from the poasting and nothing works .Pls anyone that can help , i would miss the program after all this time but i realy cant see anyway round it .

Lord of the Rings February 27th, 2009 01:18 AM

You're trying to download the exact same files right? I've had that problem with particular files. Each time I'd end up with the same corrupt file no matter which host I tried to find. However, I know eventually I did find a decent copy of one at least. Why this happens, I don't know. Perhaps due to the uploader's firewall/security, or the file they have is corrupt or an ISP in between is somehow affecting things.

Is the fault at the user's end? It could possibly be ... an over aggressive AV program or router that is not parsing data properly (this could be happening at the uploader's end too.)

I do remember one suggestion for corrupt files was to delete your preferences folder. I'm not sure this will fix things every time however.

And yes, download % dropping back is related to a corrupt file message. However if you clicked yes to continue & clicked the option to always use that answer, then you would not see that pop up window again, thus seeing files go backward in % might take you by surprise. ;) You can revert popups to default in your settings. ;)

drfhm February 27th, 2009 03:27 AM

I dident click yes to always use answer and i dont get message .From about 55 downloads i got none past the point of 47% some drop back after 30 to 40% .I tried some downloads from the same source and film that i had from weeks ago and altho they are perfect copies i now get to a point and then back again up to 3% .I changed nothing at all and have been using limewire for years daily , the problem started for no aparent reason and not its total and seems permanent whatever i try , i did have a few films do this about a year ago however just a few not all like now and the problem righted itself this time its been a couple of weeks .

drfhm February 27th, 2009 03:30 AM

Sorry i should aslo point out that i play every download regularly and theres never a problem just clicking review and playing , i make note of time it plays to and when the % drops back so does the time it plays , the % is often wrong also , i had 335mb from a 699mb file and it said 46%

I've been using the 4.16 retrograde for many months now without any problems. I suggest you do it too.

martyray February 27th, 2009 09:24 AM

I can't get 5.0 Pro to do more than 10 downloads at a time, any suggestions?

Lord of the Rings February 27th, 2009 09:40 AM

At present that is a limitation. It might change in a later version. ;)

drfhm February 28th, 2009 01:10 AM

Yesssssss, Thanks BOBSTER think that did it , downloading 2 films yesterday , got up to 45% and 66% before i logged off. Restarted this morning and there was just 22% and 23% of them left showing, when i played them they were a lot shorter also . Was just about to uninstal limewire and look for another download P2P then i decided to go to preferences , went through everything clicking restore defaults then uninstaled Limewire 4.18 for the third time and downloaded version 4.16 . Once it was downloaded and up and running i restarted everything from the incomplete file and the two films from yesterday started to download with 0% , everything else needed more sources then after i changed to find new sources all showed awaiting sources as always , the two that had restarted were still showing 0% but downloading well then after a couple of minuites jumped up to 3% and 56% respectivly and continue to download normaly without any jumping back , at this moment im at 82% on the one and shut it down twice to see what would happen but when i reboot theyr still there all there and downloading normaly . Realy weird , dont have a clue why but at least for now it apears to be sorted .Anyone know why or what they think i did that fixed it would be helpful to know for next time .

drfhm March 4th, 2009 01:14 AM

I gave up

Thats it for me , no more.Worked well for a few days now back to everything jumping back even files ive had before so i know there not corrupt , tried uninstaling totaly everything and reinstaling versions 4.16 4.18 and 5 nothing helps , all my downloads get to a point then back or just stick some as much as 80% , a total waste of time .Spoken to friends in UK ,SPAIN ,USA and AUSTRALIA , they have all had same problem from time to time and it seems to right itself but can take days or weeks and nothing seems to fix it .
