Is your LW connected properly (all green/blue/yellow connection bars)? If LW is connected, try the fixes below...they're things that have helped other people.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it's ticked , untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.
LW 5 users, check this link for info about the license warning: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/338001-post3.html

2.
Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.
Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

4. Disable all options (TLS, DHT, UP capablilties) within LW's tools > options > advanced > performance.

If none of those things help, run the condi program mentioned in this thread (click on link) & send the log file to mrogers: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/335648-post19.html
There's more info about condi here: Connection Diagnostics - LimeWire

If LW is not connected, try the fixes here: If LW Will Not Connect
If nothing there helps, post back with your system details:)

I've already done all that and it doesn't work! help

The gnutella network has been down for awhile now. I suggest you switch to torrents, Emule or Ares

JeffAMC February 3rd, 2009 05:17 PM

Its some sort of problem that everyone is experiencing that is on the Gnutella network. It started happening to me about a month and a half ago, I tried everything and nothing helped so I switched to Soulseek, Ares, Emule and Torrents (The Pirate Bay)

It's not the network, it's something on your end. It's either your firewall, router, isp, java, or you may just need to delete everything and reinstall. I can start LW and it connects right up. The only problems I've ever had were related to my firewall or my router and I'm far from being a geek .

Did you try the links in birdy's post: Problems with the search.

I have the same problem,
But if I'm going to tools > search, there's no 'show license warning' box...

TheFakeSheikh February 12th, 2009 07:15 AM

You are having the same problem thousands of other people are having, if you have the new LimeWire 5.0 installed i recommend that you download this version of limewire, Download LimeWire Basic 4.18.8 - FileHippo.com.
Like i said to another person sometimes the newest version of software isn't always the best.

Manon-92 February 12th, 2009 08:27 AM

I have try the 4.18.8 version yesterday, but he won't connect ?!..
I'll try it again today ;)

Manon-92 February 12th, 2009 09:17 AM

I'm trying the older version, but I also don't have a lot of results here..

TheFakeSheikh February 12th, 2009 09:46 AM

Yes well thats what me and a lot of other people have realised with LimeWire, there are not half as many results as there used to be, but it is still better (I think) than 5.0, try checking or unchecking the "OOB Searching" in the "searching" tab in options on LimeWire, sometimes that might work well on different connections
p.s OOB means "Out Of Bound Searching"
Get back to me

If so many people are experiencing the same issue with different setups...then isnt it a software issue?

TheFakeSheikh March 8th, 2009 04:50 AM

Well if you are regarding the "not so many search results", its LimeWires effort to crack down on spam and viruses and all of them old chestnuts.

Barky March 8th, 2009 11:53 PM

This isn't a case of "something at your end". It is a software issue. None of the "fixes" work... well, one did months ago when I tried it but the same fix doesn't work now.

The fact is that there is an issue and I get NO results... not "fewer", not "less". None. I have downloaded various versions and tried all of the ridiculously complicated "fixes" suggested and none work. I haven't been able to download in months.

If "thousands" of users are having problems then, perhaps, someone should fix the problem. I was going with Limewire Pro to get all the bells and whistles... until I stopped being able to search. Not now...

birdy March 9th, 2009 12:24 AM

According to one of the LW developers, the latest version of LW (5.1.1) should have the search problem fixed.

Barky March 9th, 2009 12:45 AM

Strangely enough... After months of it not working and minutes after posting my last comment, suddenly it is working... And I did nothing to change anything in the interim.

Lord of the Rings March 9th, 2009 02:18 AM

I find the search problems are periodic, no matter which version of LW I am using. And I use both LW 4 & 5. The search problem may last for a day or up to a week. That's just my own experience. Sometimes searching the same thing too frequently can apparently have this effect so it was suggested to me.
