uploading music = epic fail

i haev music in my folder that says it can be downloaded by other users but when i go to search for it nothing comes up:confused:

You cant your own shared files in our own search. That does not mean that they aren't being shared. If you have no firewall blocking i.e. no brick wall, then the files you share should be easily accessible.

njdj609 February 4th, 2009 04:50 PM

i don't get it though, how do i share music?

Sleepless February 4th, 2009 05:59 PM

Frequently Asked Questions - LimeWire

That should help.

njdj609 February 4th, 2009 08:03 PM

How are you so certain they do not show up for other people?

Which version of LW are you using?

LW was designed not to find the user's own shared files on their computer in a gnutella search.

For music, best way to make them more visible to others is to give them a very good description. If you have an mp3 id3 tagger then use that. Else you can use description adding in LW. Tips here: How to Share Folders (click on link) - check the sub-links. This has not been updated for LW 5 users yet, but most of the same principles apply for description adding. Adding id3 tags & descriptions means some of those details will be tagged & help the file to be found.

Whether using LW 4 or 5, right-click top of heading bar (top of columns) & choose show Hits, Uploads & Attempted Uploads in p2p & library windows in LW 5, and Library window in LW 4. Hits will tell you how many people have found those files in their searches. Uploads are obviously uploads. Attempted Uploads is where they uploaded part of the file & either dropped off or obtained the remainder of the file from another source. :)

Are you certain the files are actually being shared? In LW 4 Library window they will be coloured black if shared (red means not shared). In LW 5, a number next to share will show in Library window. And the p2p window will have a tick next to the file if shared.

njdj609 February 5th, 2009 11:15 PM

i'm using LW4 & when i go to my library all of the supposed shared files are black

i had my friends go on limewire and search DJ 609 [i'm a DJ] and only one of my mixes came up where there should be a lot more

i wasn't connected at the time so i thought maybe that had something to do with it so i tried again tonight with some other friends and the same thing happened...

One point is a person cannot search the entire network, only a portion in a single search. More on this here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/limewi...tml#post332858
With LW 4, you can either have them attempt to direct connect, else give them a magnet link. In that way they can download that file, browse your files from the upload window IF you have Chat enabled. :) (Point 3 in the link I gave in my post #7 above about having chat enabled for sharing purposes.)

That is a harder way to go about it though.

As suggested in my previous post, as much description for your files as possible is best. (Point 2 in the link I gave in my post above.) Have you id3 tagged your music? Have you given them special tags that might possibly identify you? Just some ideas for you to try. ;) The more tags you provide, the more chance of searching via those tags will give to the files being found in searches by others. And generally increases chances of those files being found in searches.

Have you checked the upload & hits columns in the Library window to see if in fact any files have been found in searches & uploaded? Right-click the heading bar to add those columns if they do not already exist.

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 02:24 AM

heading bar?

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 02:28 AM

jussssssssst kidding lol i'm tired

a couple have 1 hit..

the rest are lost in the universe of limewire

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2009 07:09 AM

How about this, you put your dj logo name or similar into the music files' description. People will be able to search that via the Comments option under Audio search in LW 4. Just a thought. :D

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:00 AM

how do i do that lol i feel like such a n00b right now

i have my name in the title if thats what you mean

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:05 AM

nevermind again, i got it:cool:

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:11 AM

hopefully it works

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2009 11:14 AM

Are your songs id3 tagged? That's what I mean. Give them as much description as possible. With a decent tagger you can tag multiple files at once. I do albums at a time, then just fill out individual details where needed. I also add description/comments. ;)
This same thing can be achieved using the Description function within LW's Library window, however the description is not transferable like an id3 tag is which is actually added to the file itself.

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:36 AM

yeahhh idono how to add an id3 tag lol i have the name in title in the track & added some comments but still nothing :bangh:

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2009 11:39 AM

Do you see a brick wall icon at bottom left of LW's interface (front window)? If no, then firewall issues are not an issue. You are connecting from home?

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:42 AM

i did when it was loading the proram but now it's earth

yeah i'm at home

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2009 11:44 AM

Would it be possible to send me a magnet link via PM (personal message), & I'll see if I can download a file from you.

Edit: BTW if you were using LW 5 & your friends were also, you could potentially set up a friends network. Share personally. ie: once added as a friend, it's supposed to be easier to download from those chosen few. I've never tried so I don't know.

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 11:52 AM

but i'd have to do that everytime someone wanted to download one of my tracks? @_@

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2009 12:00 PM

lol np. Just wanted to see if there was any problem.

Do you have chat enabled in LW btw? For some odd reason, it does seem to help with the share process, as well as allowing browsing of that person's files more easily.

Only other thought I can think of is ... are you running as an ultrapeer? Do you have ultrapeer enabled or disabled? You can check via options -> advanced -> performance. To see if you are actually running as ultrapeer, view menu -> Show/Hide connections. If you are connected to more than 3 or 5 ultrapeers ... such as over 10 then you are running as an ultrapeer. For 'some' people, running as an ultrapeer affects their sharing.

njdj609 February 6th, 2009 01:18 PM

yeah i have chat enabled

nothing is checked when i go to performance

njdj609 February 14th, 2009 08:10 PM

...? -_-

Lord of the Rings February 14th, 2009 09:23 PM

Still no success uploading? How about setting uploads not to clear; Tools > Options > Uploads. That way you will see if any have been uploaded.
How many upload slots do you have?

You don't wish to send me a magnet link (via PM) to check things out?

njdj609 February 20th, 2009 11:15 AM

how do i do that? i don't use limewire to in depth if you haven't noticed lol
