Can't download .torrent file?

Hi All:

Installed the new updated version of Limewire 5 and have had a few connection and functioning problems with the new version.

What is really bizarre is that I can't seem to download a .torrent file from a particular website?!

I've cleared my cache, I've used Firefox and IE7 and I still cannot download the .torrent file. I've tried right-clicking but that doesn't work either. I receive an "error" on download as if the file doesn't exist. I've contacted the webmaster and their system is fine.

It appears to be something on my computer that is preventing me from downloading a torrent from this site.

At this point it wouldn't matter if I used Limewire or uTorrent to download the file because I can't seem to get the .torrent files???

Anybody have any suggestions as to what might be blocking me from receiving these files.

Appreciate the help,

:sos:

LW is blocked from many sites because it does not conform to the standards required for torrent sharing. For instance, LW does not track share ratios. That's why no one here recommends using LW for torrents.

Tried other sites for the file? Know of anyone else able to get the file you want?

Can't download .torrent

Hi blackhorse:

Thank you so much for responding. I'm not too sure what it is but it seems to be browser related.

It is the "hash" file that I can't download to my desktop from a particular torrent site. I have never had this problem before and they don't know why either.

I always keep my cache cleaned along with everything else, e.g. prefetch, etc.

When I go to click on the green download button, I receive a .php dead link file.

I finally found a "work around" with Firefox. I use the main page where the main green button is located and right click on it. Then I use "save as" in Firefox. So far that seems to be working.

It appears there is something in IE7 that doesn't like this particular website or torrent site. Rather strange because I can download torrent hashes from Demonoid and others.

Any ideas,

Very strange, indeed.

Possibly your ISP? I was amazed to find that I could not get to a download page for LW on my friend's machine. I could get to every other page at LW. Same thing with Frostwire. The ISP (MSN) was blocking particular pages (we were using IE6 or 5).

Your ability to work around the problem suggests you are probably right about it being a charming addition to IE7. Makes me think I should start using Opera.

If the torrent site has a forum, you may want to ask other IE7 users if they are able to download the torrent, or if they have noticed other quirks. The RIAA has had a few changes in their strategy lately. And I trust MicroSoft only slightly more than I do the US gov.

Can't download .torrent

Hi Blackhorse:

It is strange isn't it. I did post a question at the forum and the admin has never seen such a problem. I'll update my post again.

Unless this is something new with recent updates?! My own ISP wouldn't block it but that doesn't mean that MSN or others could or would.

Well we are on this subject. Do you recommend or use Peer Guardian and/or Blocklist Manager?

Thanks,

Peer Guardian is highly recommended. Launch it before starting LW. I'm not familiar with Blocklist Mgr, but the name sounds promising. It may not be necessary to run both.

The RIAA seems to have changed their tactics, since the prosecution of un-authorized file-sharers did not have enough deterrant effect. We should expect deals being made with ISPs to limit p-p.

I use IE7 to search many torrent sites, no problems so far (but I haven't gone to e-donkey or Warez - and suggest you don't either). Still, I wouldn't be surprised if MS is the culprit here. (Again I am tempted to dump everything MS and switch to Linux.)

Can't download .torrent

Hi Blackhorse:

I don't use those torrents at all. I stick with the private or more reliable but smaller sites.

I'll keep you posted as to whether or not it happens again even with my back-up plan.

Thanks,
