Strange Limewire/Windows Media Player/iTunes Question...

Alright here is the situation... I downloaded music from limewire 5, and as I downloaded them I added them to my windows media library (I had not yet downloaded iTunes). Well, apparently the files deleted themselves from my hard drive, and I've done many searches and can not find a single song I downloaded... Here is where it gets weird though, they are ALL still playable in windows media player, even though I can not find them on my computer... I suppose my question is, does anyone know how to fix this? or is there a way to save the files directly from my windows media player into iTunes (that is aside from burning them all onto CDs and then ripping them back onto the computer) Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Are they listed in your LW Library window? If yes, right-click & choose Locate File on Disk. After downloading files, you should be able to see them in the Library window. :)

If using LW 5 as you are, you can have songs auto-transfer into iTunes Music Library. LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Downloads, check option for iTunes. You need to have iTunes settings set for Copy music files to music folder when adding music which is found under Edit menu -> Preferences -> Advanced. (see example in link below)

To manually add songs to iTunes, see How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) {click on link}.

If WMP can still play the files then they must be saved on your HDD somewhere.

In LW, go to My Library - are the songs showing? If they are, right click on a file > locate on disk... that will open your saved folder (where your music's saved) outside of LW.

Or, open WMP & click on the Library tab. Now right click on a file > properties. Now click on the File tab & check Location... that will show you where the file's saved.

Once you've located the files, check this thread for info about adding files to iTunes: How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes)

The files are not showing in the LW library window. When I check the properties in WMP, they say they are located in C:/My Documents/Limewire/Shared.... I go to that file path... and the songs are not there, yet like I said, they will still freakin' play in WMP... I really don't get it...

If they are mp3's for example, why not search .mp3 using your computer search function. That will definitely find their location. :)

Once you find them you can simply drag & drop them onto iTunes Library icon at the very top of the playlists of iTunes. Can also drag & drop them onto LW 5's Library icon to get them into its library.

done that as well... I'm pretty good with computers... and I've done everything... I can not find the songs anywhere!!! And the space is being taken up on the hard drive as well. This is ridiculous!!

Have you tried a safe boot & tried to find them. :) Have you checked the properties of the Shared folder to see if anything is odd, such as viewing options or permissions, etc. ;)

If you're using Vista, it does have some odd behaviors at times so I've heard. Such as relocating some files or folders. I vaguely remember it does such under various conditions. (becomes invisible or something like that.)

There's also the option of setting up a test account with full admin abilities to access all accounts, search via that account.

I was able to copy the files from WMP to a flash drive and then copy them into my iTunes folder. I have no idea why I can't find them, yet I can copy them to a flash drive!! Oh well, probably solved for the time being.
