Visit www............

This is my worst nightmare. Having finally downloaded a video file I get this message with a request to visit a website and "register"!

Is this money going to the Mafia or Islamic Jihad????????????????

Has anyone experienced this bizarre message before?

Thanks:shoot:

uh .. spam video. How large is the video file size? Any video which links to websites is usually a dangerous file .. tries to find out your identity, maybe tell you to download a codec (which is in fact a virus), etc.

Movie download issues (click on blue link) (2nd last post has information on best video formats.)

I would also recommend checking files with VLC - (click on link) because it does not link to websites if there is such a hyperlink inside the file. And VLC has all codecs within the program itself so will play almost all video files you find on the Gnutella network. It is a safer & more reliable program to use than WMP, RealPlayer or QuickTime player or some others.

Many thanks

My limited experience with this prog is:

You need a Masters Degree (which I have!)
99.9% of files are flawed in some way or even dangerous
The programme is crap

Lord of the Rings June 26th, 2009 04:14 PM

Define why the program is crap?

The network gets spammed with organisations attempting to stop copyright sharing. That is not the fault of the gnutella client program devs.

But yes, to avoid spam you do need to learn about it bit by bit. We try to give some guides about how to. Here's a couple of links to help you thus: How to find music (which also applies to video) and Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see)

But if that's too much for you. Feel free to go out & buy the items instead if you are seeking copyright material. :)

Thanks again

I will acknowledge that I have yet to master all the tricks of the trade. However, I am using BITZI etc and still find it difficult to avoid Porn and material with foreign subtitles! (sometimes it seems that if it aint porn you get foreign subtitles)

Will keep trying though

Try a google, you 'might' find what you're looking for on a torrent site. ;)

Thanks for your time and interest:)

Depending on torrent site, many if not most torrent sites have user feedback on the file links posted.

Hi again LOTR

Just out of interest how do you use VLC to check the integrity of the files before you attempt to download them?

Thanks

Lord of the Rings June 27th, 2009 09:31 AM

You can't check them 'before', but you can after you have downloaded 10% or more (or perhaps 5-10% depending on file). Go to your incomplete folder, open from there. Do it that way instead of using the LW Preview option otherwise LW will create a preview file inside your incomplete folder. The last post in the very first post I gave you shows how to do it that way.
