Two new scams I've recently encountered when playing videos:
one takes you to a fake Microsoft Windows page to download a CODEC,
the other takes you to a fake Adobe page to download their latest flash player.
Both pages look very legit, but Microsoft says I don't need anything, and I made sure that I have the latest from Adobe. G-Spot said that those movie files each contained over 700 unused bytes at end of file, obviously bogus, (I was suspicious when they downloaded a little too fast!).
If you need an update to your player in order to watch a video, NEVER accept the link that pops up. Use your browser to find the update you need from the proper source. |
