Installed a router, now Limewire is slloooooowww.

I have always had a wired connection, I just moved and had to purchase a router and adapter. I get an excellent connection, and I can download of other sites like the steam network at over 300kbs. However, Limewire has become exceedingly slow since I hooked up the router. It still connects, I can still search, and I can still download, but the overall speed has gone from about 400kbs to 20kbs. These are always torrent files.

I am running windows XP SP3 and limewire 5.3.6.
Its a cable internet connection run through a Linksys WRT610N router to a Linksys WMP600N adapter on a 5ghz band.

I'm thinking its not port forwarding because I can still connect right? What else could it be??

Go to the Tools menu -> Advanced & see what the message says, if you are firewalled or not. If yes then that would make a major difference for torrents. As you probably know sharing back is so important for speeds when using torrents. :)

Just one thing, you haven't said whether you have changed ISPs when you moved, if you have then your new ISP could be bandwidth shaping (aka restricting) your P2P connection.

Unfortunately, a lot of ISPs the world over are under pressure form their respective governments to discourage their users from using P2P apps.

Its says "You are behind a firewall and support firewall transfers".

I always share files back.

And no I didnt change ISP's. Although I dont know that it would matter because Canada doesn't really oppose pirating so I couldnt see them pushing ISP's in that direction.

Weird. It just changed and says I am not behind a firewall and that I have no internet connection, yet its still downloading??
