Default Error - Same file is already being uploaded?

I've never had any problems with Limewire and have been using it for a few years.

I downloaded a torrent/movie and realized it was only half of the movie. I deleted all the files and was going to do an entire new upload.

An error message pops up with:

"Same file is already being uploaded" and I can't proceed. The User Help instructions give no help.

All files are cleared out - but I have not cleared the cache or rebooted because I'm in the middle of two long downloads.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Use a proper torrent client and you won't run into that kind of trouble. I would recommend Vuze: The most powerful bittorrent client in the world. or Torrent - a (very) tiny BitTorrent client

Thank you, but that didn't answer my question. I said I had never run into an issue with Limewire before.

Has anyone seen this error message and know what it means?

Cleared cache in LW?
Are you sure it said "uploaded" or was it downloaded? Upload means you are sharing the file with others. Downloading means you yourself are downloading the file to your computer.

There is a setting in LW that allows you to download an identical file with a different name. ie: Tools -> Options -> Downloads, If the file already exists, download it with a different name.

Normally LW checks the hash of the file (contents of file), if the hash is the same then it will say you've already downloaded it, regardless of the filename. However, filename clashes can also cause a problem ... the system would not let you have two identically named files in same folder. Thus, checking the option I gave should fix that issue. (if that's what the problem is.)

Isn't that just for files from Gnutella? Didn't think that applied to torrents as well.

Hybrids tend to not work to well on torrents, which is why they are banned many places. Limewire is mainly a Gnutella client, where the devs (mainly for profit) added a halfassed torrent support feature, which is missing alot of the important stuff from a real client.. like e.g. proper anouncing.

It only leaves the question, where on Earth someone can find a torrent with half a movie.

Some movies, especially older ones, were split into two seperate torrent files for faster downloading. I used to have to dl half a movie at a time (which was also the right size for a VCD). Some of those old torrents are still around.

Ok I only remember that from Gnutella and other P2P. I've never encountered an incomplete movie torrent. Also if this was the case, wouldn't the torrent title clearly state e.g. CD1?

They usually were. But you know how accurate filenames are. I could usually tell by filesize, but got surprised a couple of times when the movie I was watching ended midway through.

Yeah, life was tough in the old days.
