Okay, I know this issue was briefly addressed in the FAQ, but that didn't help me solve the problem. I am running Limewire on a Mac, and I'll occasionally download a file successfully only to have it appear in my download folder as a useless "Limewire Document". I followed the FAQ's suggestion of shortening the file name (although it was already a short file name) and putting the correct file extension on the name (though that was already there as well). No luck--it's still a "Limewire Document". Do I have to do these things *before* I download? And why does it only happen with software downloads? I've never had this problem with video or audio. Thanks in advance for your help.

this is not the solution.
Just wanted to second your question. This problem is truely painful. I am amazed that it is beyond global knowledge to provide a solution. |

The answer's in the General Mac Support forum.
You can use MP3 Rage to fix your limewire documents. |

Thanks for the tip...I'll give this a try. Actually, I have had *some* successful downloads where the file appeared as a "Limewire Document" and I was able to unstuff it with Stuffit Expander. The problem is, this only works some of the time.

Let me add one more thing to my above post...all of my "Limewire Document" problems have occured with *program* downloads, never with music or video. I guess MP3 Rage might not help me after all...

Yes, you can. MP3Rage is great for MP3s but also works well to change the file type of other kinds of file. I have successfully used it on a half dozen .sit files (Stuffit archives) already.
You can do this with any number of Mac file editing programs; I just recommend MP3Rage because I hope that more people will edit the tags on their music files, and this makes it easy to add in, say, the artist and album title for a given album. |
