I don't use Windows Defender or AVG. Looks like you can set Defender to real time protection: Windows Defender: Support

AVG's paid version seems to have real time protection. But I don't think the free one does. That's something you should check out.
But it's quick & easy to scan manually anyway... just get into the habit of scanning a file as soon as it's downloaded :)

Ty gang of villains , ; just kidding folks .

Tell me what happened & then we'll both know. We think it was some weird bug. Everybody was banned. Admins were banned. It was a PITA for everyone.

Ty birdy , one last thing , lol ;

advanced option -- external access ,

please tell me more about this rest interface ;
do you check or uncheck that little box .

I have mine unchecked. I asked someone about this & here's what he said:

The REST interface is for other apps on the same machine to control or query the client - I'm not sure exactly what features it exposes, but I think it was meant to allow the client to communicate with music players, the web browser, etc.
So I guess it's up to you whether you leave it unchecked or check it & see whether it gives you any advantages. Since the PE is a Beta version of LW anyway, there's probably no way of knowing whether the option works well or not since documentation from LW isn't available any more.

Is a beta version an untested , untried , experimental , version ??

birdy January 16th, 2011 12:27 AM

A Beta version is normally released for testing - so that bugs can be identified & fixed. Once that happens there's usually either a release candidate or a stable release.

It works for me on my other PC but since I installed on my new system AVG is not working. Any ideas on why it's currently not working?

Are you using the Pirate Edition or the LimeWire 5.5 Pro version?
It is not possible to activate new LW 5.5 Pro versions.
For many people, the AV has stopped working in the Pirate Edition. Likewise for mine.
hmm for my LW 5.5.9 Pro, it seems it is now no longer seeking AV updates. It's my guess the AV internet link connection has been deliberately broken by either LW.org, RIAA or AVG. Thus, AVG is no longer sending AV updates to LW users.

I forgot to mention anyway, not sure if it makes a difference, but in LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Transfers, there is an option to enable AV scanning for downloaded files.
However I have my doubts it will work if there are no AV definitions installed anyway. This seems to be broken as mentioned.
