Default Unable to Download .MOV files

Every time I download a .MOV file the download completes normally and the file size of the download matches the search listing. But the length is always 2 seconds and the file will not play (Win Med Player, Quicktime, Winamp, VCR player). I'm a new user (1 month) running LimeWire PRO 5.5.14 and Java 1.6.0_21 both of which I have uninstalled (using REVO) and reloaded multiple times as suggested by LimeWire tech support. System is HP Firefox with Quad 9400 CPU and 4GB memory and 1.5 TB of disk. OS is Win 7 64 bit. Connection is Comcast cable modem and I always show 5 bars in Limewire. Firewall and Anti-virus are Norton 4.2.0.12 (furnished by Comcast). Browser is Firefox 3.6.9.

Greetings, Shrdlu.

Welcome to the Gnutella forums!

What you have been downloading are bogus files. In my experience, all MOV files on the net are bogus (but that may not be true for all). Anyway, some tips here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...ad-issues.html Read through the whole page.

To me, WMP, QT, and Winamp are all bloated ware. I highly recommend the free VLC player, which comes with all CODECs installed. (CODECs will otherwise likely be your next problem). If you continue to use your other players, I strongly suggest you set them to not automatically connect to the web.

Default Better Perfomance from LimeWire But No Go with .MOV Files

Thanks very much for the info. I read the post you recommended and educated myself on files and transfers. I also input the bad names file into my LimeWire filters and I'm going to use Blitz to screen files. As you suggested I've made the VCR Player my default.

So far I've downloaded .AVI files successfully but still no joy with .MOV files so I'll live with it. But, since there are some good .MOV files, I'd sure like to know why I can't download them.
