I can't seem to download any torrents on my new laptop

So I bought a new laptop a few weeks ago. It's a Dell Latitude D610 Centrino with Windows XP. I wanted to get some of my old games on there, but I scratched some of the discs. When I tried to get any torrent from the pirate bay, it looked like limewire wouldn't respond at all. It didn't bother me that much, because it's a pretty big file and would take a while anyway, but then I tried downloading some music, a much smaller file, which didn't work. Nothing I tried to download work, and I can't think of any solution. Redownloading limewire won't work.

In both cases, it would show the name of the torrent on limewire, the download bar would be empty, and it would stay on 0 bytes out of ... forever. The pirate bay seems to be telling me that there are definitely seeders, and I haven't had any problem like this before. Any suggestions? I might have been using an earlier version before I got this laptop.

Does Limewire work at all or is it just the torrents? If just the torrents, then why not use a proper program for torrents, like uTorrent or Vuze?

I started with utorrent, and it seems to be going! It's different from limewire, but I like it. Thanks for your help! I'll ask back if I need any more.
