Downloads sit at 0k/sec

Im on a cable internet connection throught Optus in Australia.
I am on a small 3 computer LAN as a client using Cygate as the client/host software. I connect to the net throught the Host computer.
*The telnet check works out (Gnutella okay)
*We have no firewall
* I can surf the internet no worries
* I can connect and search throught the GNutella network

BUT.... When I click on downloads.. any download, and Ive tried plenty, the download will accept me only half the time, and the few times it does accept, downloads just sit at 0k/s. Ive checked the statistics, and as an example its said for 7000 messages, ive had 5500 routing errors and 5600 dropped messages.
Any advice would be cool!!
Thanks

Question

What Gnutella client are you talking about here?

Gnutella network

Oops. forgot that one. Im using the latest version of Limewire. I did also try to backdate to the previous version when it didnt work, and it was the same story

I've been able to download files but it looks like no one is able to upload from me (limewire pro 2.3.2). At least it looks that way from the upload monitor. I've also had a few chat sessions where people have been complaining that they can't download from me. I've checked my firewall settings and I've done the force IP thing. So my upload problem could be your download problem. Keep trying to download and keep bugging the developers in case there is some problem with the limewire software.

I've got a different 0K issue.
A lot of my downloads go fine for a while, then suddenly drop to 0 KB/s and stay there forever. The status is "Downloading from x.x.x.x" and no matter how long I wait it never goes into "requery sent" or "connecting to" mode. This clogs up my upload slots and bums me out, because Limewire never retries those files and the only thing to do is kill the download and hope you get lucky with the resume working. This is tough to do when you have already downloaded most of a file, given Limewire's iffy record of resuming.

Is it known what causes this to happen? Can LW add some kind of defibrillator button to zap dead downloads back to life?

I meant "clogs up my download slots" in the message above. Sorry.

Some users seem to set their upload-speed to zero in their config-files. I've just recently found a case of a user using LimeWire 2.3.1 who LimeWire connected to without a single byte of data being transferred.

Interesting, but I don't think that's the case here- the download goes part of the way through before stalling. I've got files that stalled at 80+ percent of complete...which makes it more frustrating.

Is the setting upload speed to 0 a freeloading thing? Are they still downloading at normal speeds?
