realplayer error on avi preview? Hi, I've downloaded about 17percent of a movie, I tried to preview it and when realplayer starts it says " a general error has occured. Class factory cannot support stated class" Any ideas? Am I wasting my time finisihing it? I've downloaded other movies, anime videos that work fine. Someone let me know please, I'd hate to wait for it to finish and not be able to play it. Thanks |
It sounds like a codec issue; Nimo's codec pack should help: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html or else klite http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/ |
Thanks, I'll give them a try. :) |
No, to me is sounds more like Real player's fault (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28689 for an example of how "perfect" and "bug-less" Real is) I will yet again make the, now old, suggestion to dld and use the free VLC player at www.Videolan.org . You won't need more codecs than it already has. And as another general suggestion, don't use Real that much: I hear it's not all that good. |
Thanks for the help. I think I'll wait until the download is complete, I'm still on a modem so it'll be a while. (Sigh! - Charter get off you but and get to my area!) When it's complete I'll go into the file and open it with windows media player. I've done this with other videos I've downloaded that were in realplayer format. If it still doesn't work I'm going to assume the problem is in the file. Because I have several players, I should be fixed on codecs. I checked out the sites mentioned above, but those packs come with addware, and that's not something I want on my comp. So it's wait and see. I'll post the results. |

Okay, it finally finished. When it was done, just clicked the launch button and it played fine in real player. It also plays fine in windows media. I checked out the real player website and according to them *sometimes an error message will occur when trying to open an incomplete file* While it works sometimes and not others is still a mystery to me, but considering the number of people who were sharing this movie I didn't give up and kill the download. Still being an "noob" I've gotten a few sneaky ads and just delete them. Same with downloads that have a corrupted file message. So my advice is if it won't preview, BUT a fair number of people are sharing it, AND the file size is huge, then finishing the download is probably going to be a safe bet. Hope this helps some people out there. :D |
Sometimes its not possible to preview a video, this is no sign that the video is corrupt. After the donwload finshed the video usually works. Morgwen |
