Upload Question

I've been running BS Lite 5.1.0b25 for 3 or 4 days now... switched to it from 5.2. I'm always an ultrapeer, so I don't bother to set the switch, and normally, I see around 2 - 3 thousand uploads a day.

Here's the issue: I restarted BS last night, and I can see the upload "queries" coming in, but uploads were very low. I rebooted the system, checked all network settings (firewalls, router, etc), then restarted BS again. In the 4 hours since then, 30 uploads. Should be 20 times that amount. Everything appears to be working properly, including downloads.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

PS - on a related note, since switching to BS beta, the little globe icon on the bottom always says "1". ??

Everybody's seeing that. Somebody must have finally noticed that the heartbeat
node had crashed and rebooted it.

If you want to keep your uploads at speed never shut it down. When you switched,
you also switched your GUID, so it will take weeks for people to find you again.

Thanks

Not sure what a GUID is or how it works (I can surmise it's some sort of address similar to an IP address, except used by gnutella?). Regardless, thanks for the info. Uploads are still crawling along. I always figured that with a share library the size of mine, people would just find me by virtue of searching.

BTW, I did just install the new hostiles list - first time I've used one. I'd never really perused these forums before, but I could see that a lot of the supposed hits were probably bogus, since there's no way that many of them could be busy at once - the math just didn't add up.

I saw your posts over at Technutopia too, so I'm guessing you probably know this: How much of the gnutella infrastructure is actually "peer to peer" and how much is reliant of the manufactures of the software? The latter matters (as with newer versions of BS), since if they are involved, they could tinker with traffic, searches, etc.

Thanks again

Nick

Whoops

Didn't mean to violate the rules by including my BS server address... it is, however, public, and in that regard, lot's of people have that address. Personally, I am behind multiple layers of firewalls, as well as some other security, so I'm not exactly worried. :)

Happy sharing

Not much point in publishing it anyway, since Browse appears to be turned off. :p

Browse/Upload Issue?

I just checked, and it is set as I thought = browse is on, as it normally is. So far today, in 17 hours of uptime, only 313 downloads (it does appear to be speeding up, though). The share library is over 12k files, so...

I wonder if your inability to browse my connection and the low uploads are somehow related? I can actually run BS on my notebook via cell modem, and try browsing it myself, later.

Cheers

Nick
