Need Help!~!!! (songs won't finalize) - Version 6.1

I am trying to download songs. They are downloading 100% but they won't finalize. The songs are stuck, it just says finalizing but they don't do anything from there. I tried e-mailing the help people in bearshare but they have not answered me. Please help me!

AaronWalkhouse October 1st, 2007 10:38 PM

Finalizing? Are you using the crippled BearShare 6?
Try the recommended version instead.

rickysett October 1st, 2007 11:48 PM

I'm using bearshare 6.1. it works fine on my laptop with windows vista. I have a paid subscription and can add up to 3 computers what do i do?

AaronWalkhouse October 2nd, 2007 01:36 AM

I think they have a chat-like help line in the program somewhere. As long as you're stuck with
v6 it is they who control when you can listen to the music you've downloaded, and it might just
be a bit of downtime on the servers they use to issue the temporary licenses that enable your
player to work.

rickysett October 2nd, 2007 06:56 PM

My songs are still not downloading I even tried downgrading from WMP11 to WMP10 and nothing. Their tech support is not answering any of my e-mails and they don't have a phone line to call. This really sucks. Any suggestions.

AaronWalkhouse October 2nd, 2007 11:51 PM

Try that recommended version. It's entirely free of that malfunctioning DRM crap. ;]

Figured it out

A.) Uninstall Bearshare 6 from your computer completely.
(You must uninstall Bearshare before completing the later steps)

How to uninstall Bearshare 6?
Click 'Start' -> 'Programs' -> 'Bearshare 6' -> 'Uninstall'

B.) Renaming your DRM folder in Windows XP and Windows 2000

First, show the hidden files and folders option in Windows:

1. Open My Computer.
2. Click Tools -> Folder Options.
3. From the Folder Options window, click the View tab, and select the Show hidden files and folders button.
4. Next, uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) box.
5. Click Apply, Then click OK.

Next, find and rename the DRM folder on your hard disk drive:

1. Shut Down Bearshare 6
2. Open My Computer.
3. Open the C: drive
4. Open the Documents and Settings folder.
5. Open the All Users folder.
6. Right-click the DRM folder, and then click Rename.
7. Type drmbackup, then press ENTER.
8. Close down all the windows
9. Restart your computer.
10. Once your computer is back on, launch Windows Media Player , then close it.

Install Bearshare 6 from www.Bearshare.com and try to play your Bearshare music in Bearshare.

It works. If anyone needs help let me know.

If I un install bearshare will My sbubscription go away and make me pay again?

AaronWalkhouse October 17th, 2007 09:39 PM

Use the above instructions to find your DRM folder, and then make a backup copy of it just to be sure.

xsheagy02 October 18th, 2007 03:45 AM

This is probably a stupid question but what is A DRM folder? What does DRM stand for?

AaronWalkhouse October 18th, 2007 04:33 AM

Digital Restrictions (or Rights) Management is a set of locks on those music file that make it
impossible to play the music unless your computer has been provided the secret codes by the
company. People who make the mistake of signing up to BearShare 6, iTunes or any of those
other DRM-using services can have all or any of their music taken away without notice
whenever the control freaks who hold the codes decide to do it.

I prefer to download MP3 files because they don't support that nonsense. ;]

xsheagy02 October 18th, 2007 02:48 PM

Can someone take me through STEP BY STEP on how to do this. THANKS A BUNCHH IF YOU CAN

AaronWalkhouse October 18th, 2007 04:17 PM

iTunes is available for free at Apple

Did the step-by-step instructions above not work?
Where exactly did it stop working?

victoriawendt October 18th, 2007 05:14 PM

it wont let me download without a credit card even if it is free...it starts when you get a song and click download then asks for credit card # but it is free:confused:

xsheagy02 October 18th, 2007 08:20 PM

I uninstalled everything. And now I went to all doucments and settings, all users. and now I see the following folders:

Appication Data
Desktop
Favorites
Shared Documents
Start Menu
Templates
NTUSER ( Video I think )
NTUSER.dat ( notepad thing )

I dont know what you want me to rename.

Naturally they won't let you download anything until they can get your identity and
then stamp it into the files with a watermark. If you don't have a credit card then
forget them and get the version of BearShare that doesn't mess with DRM.

Did you skip the part about revealing hidden files and folders? :wasntme:

Hi, I'm new to this thread. I had the same problem as sheagy. I can see all hidden files and folders but when I go into all users (or even each individual user) I cannot find the drm folder. I have been stuck on "finalizing" after everytime I try to download it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program multiple times and have even added a drmbackup folder, all to no avail.

Can someone help me please?

AaronWalkhouse April 15th, 2008 01:30 PM

Try the version of BearShare that doesn't mess with DRM.

windadep April 15th, 2008 02:48 PM

I tried that and when i got on the program there was nothing. I spent like two hours on it and search for stuff but nothing came up. plus it messed with my clock.
Maybe I did it wrong but i don't think so.
And in response to my previous post:
If you have a free account on BearShare, and download anything with Yellow stars, then you are downloading things only paying members can get. you can only download the green star items. The yellow star ones "download" but stop at finalizing cause your account cant finalize the transaction as it is now (a free one).
This may have already been said but that was what the problem was for me.

AaronWalkhouse April 15th, 2008 10:54 PM

Ah, I see you're a victim of Comcast's illegal censorship. They promised
the U.S. government that they would stop doing that, sometime next year.

Until then, you'll find that Azureus (now known as Vuze) and
µTorrent will still work as long as you turn the encryption on.

Philis July 13th, 2009 12:34 AM

sounds familiar o' yeah

My BS songs get stuck in finalizing also. I already have 6 DRM backup folders and I am not getting help from BS and have continually had the same issues over and over again. But, I am happy to read the post giving the way to uninstall BS and again :rofl:reinstall BS and rename the DRM folder.
I am glad to be a newbie in the forum. I have been browsing the issues and found helpful info.
