Tell us your favorite new feature!

Hi,

Please tell us about your ONE favorite new feature for Phex in this thread.

And please tell us about the ONE most important feature you'd like to see in newer versions of Phex.

Additionally we'd be glad to see your vote in the new poll on our Website.

If you have several features in mind, please post the most important here and open a new thread for the otehr ones or post them to Feature Requests sorted and summarized

My favourite feature is the download overview with the transfers and candidates tab.

The missing feature more important is the credence support. Meta-data support it's also very important (as i2p - but every client are on an early stage of development, and i can live with proxies!)

I hope this is a new suggestion, to be able to right click in Monitor those uploads you wish to block or allow thus adding to Filter Hosts or Allow Hosts.

Thank you, Firedoc

Different Networks

Personally one of my favorit features is the Network feature. Where I can choose my own network and share within. Ideal for sharing with family and friends. But...

The files I might want to share with the Gnutella network, I do not want to share with my friends and family (AKA VIPs), or vica versa. Now I could go and encrypt the files I want to share with my VIPs, but then I would not need a closed Share network at all.

So here is my wish to make this feature superb: Make a separated share per network, so network A does not know and share the files of network B etc. And also make it possible to have more than one Network (group) active at the same time.

Or am I asking to much :gimmimore:

Anyway, thx for Phex. It's great.
It shows Java software can be slim and fast. :xeri_ok1ani:

Get lists with Thumbnails

Searching goes pretty rapid via Phex and I was stunned by the ease of connecting to the network. No asking for port to open, or complaining. And a great closed Network option.

No with that in mind, I would like very much if within a closed network it would be possible to get filelists with thumbnails. Specialy for sharing photo's with family and friends. Not to big thumbs, like max. 6 to 7 KB a piece. But in pixels large enough to make choosing easy.

That's it, thx :hellooo:

Closed group sharing alongside sharing within Gnutella won't be in for some time (except if a Java coder comes along who wants to do it him-/herself :) ). There are quite many complications coming with that, and we'd need someone to really tackle them all.

Getting thumbnails of images would be possible, if most clients where Phex', which isn't the current case in Gnutella. But still, it could be done with a search reply extension. The hard thing about it would be to make sure that it can't be misused to attack your computer, and to create the previews automatically for any files. Using PNGs and finding the correct libraries to decode the files could solve that...

What I ment was, in Phex I can create my own network, or choose the Gnutella one, that is default. But the shared files are the same. So when I start up with my own network I share the same files as when I started with Gnutella. And the other way around.

Now what I would like is that every network created in Phex can have their own shared files. So lets say I have a network called Family_And_Friends_007, the settings and shared folder would be in a different folder. So when I choose to use the default network, my private shares will not be available there. This would all be localy, so changing network in Phex would mean switching settings for the sharedfolder.

So, I would not need an along side network. When I switch, my network does, my settings do and the shared folder does also.

... I hope I could explain more clearly what I ment...

And about the images, I can see that something is coming to excistence there. :yahoo:But, I do see the challenges there. Maybe use it only as an extension when using your own created private networks in Phex?
( Allthough they are still GNUtella this might be possible as an extension.)

But it is easy for me to have ideas about it. The programming challence is something else...

What you could do to work around this problem is to start Phex with the command line option -c <path> in case you use private network.
Something like:
phex.exe -c c:\temp\mynet
will make Phex use your configs in c:\temp\mynet for that session.
You could create two desktop/menu icons for private and public network on containing this switch and the other not.

Thx, that is what I am looking for!
That would solve it actually.
