FrostWire 4.9.33 Beta released

We are proud to announce or very first release and we hope that there will be a lot more releases of FrostWire in the future.

This first one is mainly supposed to test our infrastructure for building installers and so on, so we can offer you high quality packages as soon as LimeWire goes DRM.

You can download FrostWire here:

It will create a FrostWire folder in the preferences folder of osx (I suppose it's a new .frostwire folder under Windows) so it doesn't interfere with current LimeWire installation.

That's a good question to answer in the FrostWire.com FAQ, thanks

Ciao

Nice to see FrostWire is finally here. :) Just a very simple question 1st. Why are the OSX versions zipped. Is it due to dmg issues with some browsers. If so, why not use SIT/SITX?
Nice icon for OSX!!! For some reason when i unzipped it, I ended up with 2 identical folders (must have sticky fingers lol :D - using Stuffit Del'x 10)

I tried to run it whilst running LW & it refused to load. All I got each time was the load icon (as below). I didn't even see it on the activity monitor. It would kill itself immediately after this window appeared. So I thought this much feedback might be helpful ... not sure it it's due to specific user issue or not. Might be bandwidth issue but I somehow doubt it. Or perhaps it's a silly idea trying to have both running simultaneously, but thought I'd try anyway. :D I'm just not keen on killing LW at this very moment whilst I have my best host (re: specific content) in 4 yrs with several downlds going very well.

Well ... It's up and running for me no problem (on it's own ... I closed Limewire first) I'm waiting for a download to finish. I notice that while there is a separate Frostwire Preference folder, It has apparently copied the Limewire Preferences, and is showing the same share and Incomplete downloads so I am wondering if I change preferences in one, they will change in the other. ..... Nothing else to report ... It's just like Limewire so far

What's wrong with ZIP? What's the point of a plain DMG? Do you know that Stuffit Expander is no longer bundled with Mac OS X 10.4?

Your browser unzipped it automatically!

It's feature!

I must have missed seeing the unzipped folder which is a high possibility before i unzipped it. I'm surprised Tiger has dropped auto support for Stuffit. Must be a pr problem b/w apple & the new owners. After all, SITX is a more efficient archive than zip. So what program does Tiger offer to unzip files?

So it probably was then a silly idea trying to have both run simultaneously. Sorry then if my post is not so relevant then. I'll give proper feedback after I close LW & launch FW. BTW I don't run LW 4.9 The betas & user feedback killed my enthusiasm for it. I hope that don't put me in the bad books. But I did continue with 4.9 on windows. It's now time to try FW for win asaiavailable. Offline installation prefered.

So FW is designed to run only "if" LW is not? K then! lol :D
Having more than one p2p app running is what most of the mods do. I'll report back then when/if I have something more constructive & worthy to feedback upon.

(sheesh it took about 15 mins for my response to be accepted/loaded. Server I have no control over.)

FrostWire will copy some of the LimeWire settings when running it for the first time. The settings are from there on completely separate and as long as you have your FrostWire settings, FrostWire will not look for any LimeWire settings.

SITX is maybe more efficient than zip but I can still counter with bzip2. Stuffit is dead and bandwidth is currently not our main problem.

Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 have build-in support for the following types: bz, bz2, cpgz, cpio, gz, tar, tbz, tbz2, tgz, z and zip. And through the Create Archive command you can even create zip files. Read the ****ing Handbook! :D

No, LW is designed to not let you open more than one instance and FW inherit this function.

IP blocking?

How about implementing an IP blocking feature on FW?
Seeing the RIAA is already on LW's back it may be good practice...?

Why is there a "magnetmix.com" add in the bottom-left of the screen? I thought idea with FW was to be add-free, nag-free etc...
