I thought I'd start a thread just for people to be mad at viruses on. :D

Man I hate viruses! Sometimes I want to give the people who make them a piece of their own medicine!
( but I wont because I don't know where they are, who they are, or how to code anything. :) )

Feel free to post anything negative about viruses here, and admins feel free to close this thread if you don't think it's appropriate.

virii are the plague of p2p networks...which is why we, ppl with half a wit, constantly try to hammer home the concept of not downloading programs

lol, virii aren't just a plague on p2p networks, They're a plague on all networks. (WWW, LAN, WLAN, Internet, etc.)

Freaking viruses jump from computer to computer leaving havoc in their wake. :mad:

i hate the *******s and they must be sad .dint go on imesh its riddled with them and your cookies, the cbest is avast anti virus and ewido suitee both free ,any one no any others

[non-negative]viruses are very awesome pieces of art. it takes great skill to effectively find, reproduce and exploit vulnerable pieces of code. it is one reason why products are becoming very secure these days (except microsoft products, which will never become secure.)[/non-negative]

But out of a controlled environment and released into the wild represents malice. But, people who exploit code sometimes do it not for fun, but to prove to an unwilling company that they should secure and improve their products. (*cough*microsoft*cough*)

Sometimes it just takes a sasser virus to wake people up... others it may take total DDoS attacks by large botnets. But its very hard to wake up companies that can just barely protect themselves and their products enough to not be "out of the game" by large contracted companies who buy their products.

I personally have built programs to break into my own machines when i cannot access them due to a loss of a password (mainly root). (JTR is a good program for beginners).

In the end, it will only benefit you with better security for your computers locked doors (or windows :p).

Does this mean that (*Cough*) Mac isn't as secure as they claim.

Linux is my preferred kernel running a good distro like slackware or debian. ;) I never plan on purchasing a Mac, nor do I own one.

What is JTR is it a java app

JTR is short for "Jack The Ripper", its a hash cracking tool used by beginners and veterans alike to crack password hashes on unixlike systems.

I have also used this tool to crack the NT SAM hash manager on windows NT (NTFS filesystem) based systems. There is also another tool that is also great in cracking NT passwords, but I digress.

In my spare-time, I enjoy cracking my own systems to see how far I can get without using a password. Its pretty amazing what you can learn by doing these kinds of things.
