Frostwire vs. Limwire

I just wanted to get anyone's opinion on Frostwire. I've been using Limewire for years. I just started using Frostwire today for the first time. Is either one better than the other?

From the sticky above:

The FrostWire Team does its best to maintain good relationship with the LimeWire project. The FrostWire Team, all of whom are still members of the LimeWire open-source community, disagrees with LimeWire's decision to consider filtering content on the Gnutella network (LimeWire has not implemented this type of DRM technology into their client as of yet). However, we will continue supporting the LimeWire client development and do not wish to make fundamental or drastic changes to the LimeWire core itself. FrostWire will not break with LimeWire's design philosophy.

FrostWire, unlike LimeWire, will never offer a PRO version. The FrostWire project will always remain strictly non-profit without any bundled software, including advertisements, spyware, malware or any code outside the scope of the general network that can transmit private information. FrostWire will always remain Free as in both price and freedom.

I have recently come from my old limewire pro, to the current beta Frostwire.

One thing I have noticed is that the number of simultanious host downloaded from has dropped, generally I would get 10 hosts in Limewire pro, but seem to never get above 8 in Frostwire.

I dunno if it makes a difference, but it is a bit annoying as when I am downloading from 8 hosts, but sitting 5 or 10 k under my maximum download speed, I wonder if the extra 2 hosts would have brought up my download speed to max!

I must say though, that the searching and connecting in Frostwire is much better than my old limewire version, it was starting to take for ever to connect, and search results were way down.

Only pro lets you download from 10 hosts. FW is like basic LW & your max will be 8:)

Ah well that explains that - coz they say they would never have a pay version, I just assumed the version they released was the equivilant of lime wire pro.

I'll keep my old pro version around for the odd times 8 hosts downloading wont max out my download speed!

Hmmm do you guys have a different limewire than me..i can change the number of hosts and downloads.. :o

Ferral February 6th, 2006 11:25 AM

Must do - I have V 4.92, and can only set the number of simultanious downloads, no setting for number of hosts.

Chris09 February 6th, 2006 12:07 PM

Aha..i have PRO 10.4.3 (lets me change number of downloads ^^) And..i can make it so people don't take all my bandwidth from uploads, i made it so people can only use 1 file from me.. You guys should get 10.4.3

Chris--all 4.9/4.10 versions of LW and FW allow one to set the number of simultaneous downloads, uploads, and searches.

The swarm number is a different setting, and is hard-coded into LW (Pro and Basic) and FW. Upgrading to 4.10.5 of either program won't lose you any settings, and should improve performance since 4.10.5 fixed some bugs.

Cheers
