Some suggestions Hello, been using Frostwire since I heard about it and it seems to be going very well. This new version seems to download MUCH faster then 4.10.3, which was the one I was using before this. I haven't been using it long (an hour so far) and downloaded 3 things much faster then I normally do. There was one big problem, when I went to install 4.10.9 it never asked me where I wanted to install it. I tried installing it 4 or 5 times just to make sure I didn't miss anything but I never found one place where it asked me where to install the program. I had to download the Zip and set it up like that. I'm using Windows XP. I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place to make suggestions or not but here it goes. I'd love to see either the X's gone on the tabs or an option to not have them there. There have been many times when I have accidently closed one of the tabs because I clicked on one over it, and when the tabs on the bottom switched the mouse cursor just happened to be over top of the X and the tab closed. Its more of an annoyance then anything else. Right clicking on the tab and hitting closed works just fine. I'd love to have an option when you right click on a file you are downloading to remove the file and the reference to the file even if it is not fully downloaded. Having to wait to clear out the files just wastes space. Most of the time, I download 2 or 3 of the same file from a few people just to make sure I get a good copy and then I want to delete the ones I don't need. Just stopping them leaves the files there. Under the filter results, I'd love to have it so that with mp3s you could filter by quality. Sometimes you just want to see all the 192 quality or all the 320 quality and don't want to see anything else. I don't think there was anything else, but if I think of anything else I'll post a message. Keep up the good work and thank you. ^_^ |
You can search via bit rate. Use the audio advanced search options. ie: Tick the More Search Options & scroll down to bitrate & type in your prefered search such as 192 or 320. |

If I am looking for 6 songs it would be annoying to have 12 or 18 tabs open lookin for different qualities. Right now its just an annoyance, I figured that I would mention it though. |
I totally agree with you. But I was only pointing it out in case you were unaware. ;) Yes I'd like to see more filters also. Bit rate, size, etc. And a filter from point A to B. Be that bitrate or filesize, etc. (eg: filter out results above or below 192-320 kbps.) It's about time FrostWire started showing their own true character & innovation. Particularly since LW now has its own forum in anticipation of its new content filtering scheme. AFAIK (I guess they were feeling paranoid of potential feedback here.) Let's see some true innovation fellas. Let's see FW become an identity not just a shadow or following totally in the footsteps of ... It looks like now is the time! Time for some at least small variations. The FW community have proven they are artistic & forward thinking, let's see it come to fruition on the development side. There's many a relevant & worthy request that can be seriously considered. One of the present programmers has experience in dual network implementation. I believe this could be seriously considered "if" it can be set to only be run on one network at a time. That would solve the issues of multi-networking we all know doesn't work too well at present for other programs & their FX on networks. It's probably about time we set up a request section et voilà. If I'm not getting too far ahead of myself & the community & devs. Excuse me if I am, but I sense now is the time we anticipated. |
I want the FrostWire devs read what LOTR said. FW can become better than LW. It can have some totally different options and it doesn't need to follow the same steps like LW. It can add better skins, filters, etc. |

Ahhh ya all those filter options sound great. :) I loved it with winmx you could search for everything from 192 and up. limiting file size is also a great option. You see so many of these faked songs that are a certain size. Another feature request that I have thought about a few times is, that its quite annoying when you have to type in everything you are looking for over and over again. If you are always on the look out for certain things like songs from a certain group or pictures from your favorite sci-fi artist or what ever have a little button to ad it to a perma search so that everytime you start up the program it will start looking for those items. Not right away. I think after it has checked the files you are are sharing first, then start up the searches. This does not seem like much, but usually when I have FW open there are at least 8 to 9 things I am always looking for, specifically really rare songs or just rare artists that I can't get anywhere else, in store or off file sharing. I actually created a text file so that I can just copy and paste each of the items in. Basically just have it so that we select what kind of file we are looking for. Put in the name Then have a "search" button there or "add to perma search" which then adds it to a list of things to look for with all the options we added in. And then starts the search for it also. Course there would have have to be a away to remove things from the perma search list cause after we find the what ever we are looking for, we don't need to keep looking for it. :) Oh and another feature that would be great would be an "ignore" button. Basically if you see a file you want download it and find its a fake, you can right click on it and ignore the file and it (and any versions of it) would be ignored. Base it on the checksum thing or what ever it is that all files have. Course an "ignore all files with this same extention and this exact filesize" button/ability would be nice too. With a way to remove it too just incase you hit the wrong file. No matter if these suggestions/requests get used or rejected I think the people working on FW are doing a good job. Again keep up the good work. |
