System tray in Windows?

OK, what's happened to my system tray icon? I downloaded FrostWire 4.10.9 beta, and now the icon's gone... Since I have it set to hide in the tray when I minimize/close it, this is kinda annoying... As a workaround, I can just restart FW, and it loads my current session, but I'd still like to be able to see my tray icon, both for convenience and for the face that to exit FW I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del it.

Put your mouse on the bar in the bottom. beside the system tray.

Click Properties.

There's a button called Customize, click it. Then go to FrostWire and set it to "Always Show"

Say what? I have no idea where you're talking about... lol

What bar are you talking about? The taskbar? There's no option for FrostWire in the taskbar... Please be more specific.

Nope, still a no-go...

[Edit] Just checked, as far as Windows is concerned, FrostWire is a "Past program", not a current one, so apparantly, it's not creating a tray icon for some reason... Not a problem with Windows settings, comething with FW. [/Edit]

You need to have FrostWire opened.

Damn, then I don't know what the problem is...Uninstall it and install it again, or install LimeWireLimeWire and check if it works...I don't know anything else.

YmerejO42 March 16th, 2006 10:48 AM

I do *not* like LimeWire... Don't ask why, I couldn't specify a reason, I just prefer FrostWire... And it started when I installed FW 4.10.9 beta... I guess I'll try uninstalling it and reinstalling it, hopefully that works.

How about trying to delete the FW preferences whilst FW is CLOSED; instructions How to delete your FrostWire Preferences folder

It may or may not have an effect but worth trying. BTW do you have your FW set for closing down to the tray?

YmerejO42 March 16th, 2006 10:57 AM

Yup, I have it set that way, but since (even after completely uninstalling FW and deleting the settings from *ALL* logins on my computer) it *STILL* doesn't show up in my system tray, I'm gonna have to turn off that option and set it so that if I click the Close button, it shuts down... I hate losing the convenience of the tray icon, but since it seems to be broken, there's no point in trying to use it, now is there? lol

And yes, before you ask, when I uninstalled it and deleted all the settings, I made sure to re-download it from the main FW site and used that version to re-install it, just to be certain that I had the most recent version.

We havent touched that part of the limewire code, honestly. If this problem occurs with limewire too (with equivalent version), then please report it to them. If the problem only happens within frostwire, I will have another look at it.

I tryed with limewire (actual version) and older Versions of frostwire, the ikon shows up normal, and only with FW 4.10.9 beta i see the problem as described.
running old NT4-sp6 and JAVA 1.5

same with mine. the FW 4.10.9 beta running with Java 1.5.0_06 doesn't appear in the system tray. My LW 4.9.37 pro and my FW 4.9.37 beta do appear (of course the latter one isn't installed at present, but was a couple days ago).
So, when closing FW 4.10.9 beta, it disappears completely (means, it also does not appear in the task manager) but when I am opening it again after a minute or 2, it is still running with all downloads and uploads active  . However, when I keep it running over night, I'll get to the computer in the morning and it has disappeard (closed) completely, though I've only minimized it the evening before (not tried to hide it active in the system tray) .
Any ideas? (besides deleting the 'theme' folder, which I've tried already)
Cheers
Mario:cool:

Hi,

Trying round, i just installed Limewire 4.10.9, and later suddenly the system tray with Frostwire also worked ?!

There is no reason why this should help, but sometime things work without any reason.

But they shouldn't do so, I guess!!
Just ask some of the developers, putting their fate in the hand of "magic" ain't exactly a science (if I'm not mistaken)
It's like to get Linux running you should install first XP.....  ;)

All I can say is AFAIK FW at least initially adopts the LW preferences. So if you've already deleted the FW prefs & then installed LW, then perhaps the fresh prefs have fixed it. LW 4.10 keeps its prefs in a different location to earlier versions. Actually in the same location as the FW preferences; ie: inside the hidden folder called "Application Data". Perhaps that has some relevance.

nope none of these options helped me at all

jum August 20th, 2006 04:03 PM

This is probably due to the native code for the tray referencing the LimeWire.ico file directly. Try putting a LimeWire.ico file into the frostwire installation dir, and if the tray icon appears it is this problem.
