I just download Frostwire having problems with connections

I just download Frostwire and all I get is 3 ultrapeer connections. Is this normal? Because I could get up to 5 on Limewire>

birdy August 26th, 2006 05:58 PM

You'll get 3 ultrapeer connections with FW
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ire+ultrapeers

LW basic also connects to 3 ultrapeers, you'll only see 5 if you're using LW Pro;)

My FrostWire connections will not stay stable. It keep unconnecting.

Lord of the Rings September 7th, 2006 03:28 AM

It's probably related to a firewall problem. Firewall instructions are the same as those for LimeWire.
See sections about 1. Software firewalls, 2. Modem/Router NAT firewalls & enabling UPnP to overcome it, 3. Forwarding a port if your device doesn't support UPnP; Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

After finally getting Frostwire to load on my computer, it says " Starting Connections" in the lower left corner and after toggling connect a million times it still says trying to connect. I'm connected to the internet obviously or I couldnt post this.

I notice you're having the same problems with LimeWire. Do you think it might be ISP related? They may have started filtering p2p programs. Can you answer the questions in this thread: Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

tinacee1 you already posted lol :D If you want to start a new thread, then go to the section where your topic belongs & press the New Thread button at the top left. You posted here in FrostWire section so I guess you're using FrostWire (FW).

It's stupid here ! (me) Yes, thanks for the reply. Should get the hang of this soon hopefully. Tinacee1

I have been using Frostwire right along - downloaded stuff all night long, and today all it says is starting connection. I even reloaded Frostwire. I even reloaded windows. I do have the PnP (or whatever) clicked.

What do I try next?

Lord of the Rings October 30th, 2006 09:02 PM

Can you answer the questions listed here for us: System details - help us to help you & post them below. ;) ;)

I am the same! Frostwire has always worked fine for me before so I know it is nothing to do with my computer. Have you managed to resolve it yet?

What are your details?

Flowerscotland76 November 1st, 2006 02:41 PM

If anyone could tell me the port number for Frostwire then I will try adding that into websites I can access in my Norton Firewall.

Lord of the Rings November 1st, 2006 03:11 PM

The default port is 6346 but you can use any of the 'legal' unused port range. Not sure why we should answer you when you refuse to answer us. Have you looked at the UK isp's that block or shape p2p; ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

Good luck with your endeavors anyway.

Thank you - but I am a bit thick when it comes to technical stuff like the HUGE list of questions you asked! I am thick!

Yesterday i dowlaoded FrostWire. It just had starting connection so i uninstalled and installed it again. Then it works and i dowloaded lots :-).
Today it just has starting connection. The firewall logo is there.
Here is my details.

1. OS version? windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? possibly the windows one, no others.
3. How much ram? I don't know, but it worked once and i have not changed any software since then.
4. Hard Disk space available? 6.79 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Braodband ADSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I connect access 621
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. I don't have limewire, how do i find JAVA?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Iprimus
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It works
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. The modem connects is connected to both computers. One ethernet, one USB.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have used KAzaa and limewire and the both worked but they were really slow.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes.

I think i need to disablt the windows firewall, but i don't know how to find the settings, i don't know if my modem has any kind o firewall.

Sorry, i am not very good with computers. ;-)
Thankyou for your help.

birdy November 4th, 2006 06:34 PM

To find your Java, go to FW's menu > help > about FW. Exactly the same as LW.

Check that the XP firewall still has ports allowed for FW (or Gnutella), same as it did when you set things up originally. If you're not sure about the settings, click on this link & it will tell you how to set up the firewall. Better to have it set up than disabled:wink:
Firewall setup

Your modem-router does have a firewall. AFAIK your router supports UPnP. Try enabling it in the router & choosing that option in FW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config.

Or you can try port forwarding. Click on the link below. Don't forget the static IP setup.

Thankyou
It is working agan, although i havn't done anything so i am asuming it will stuff up again tomorrow.
My java is 1.5.0_06
I followed the instrutings on the second link.
Contorl panel, network connections, properties and then when i click on the settings button for the firewall a popup says:
Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display firewall settings.
UPnp was already on.

I will see tomorrow if it works. Thanks.
