frostwire error wont go away

i recently uninstalled my limewire and downloaded frostwire. all of my lw songs are on fw but i can touch them!!!after fw loads up, this little error bubble pops up saying
"frostwire is unable to connect to hosts on the gnutella network. this is most often due to firewalls or content-filtering software blocking gnutella (port 6346). please reveiw your firewalls options to allow frostwire to access the gnutella network or speak to your system administrator or isp to determine if gnutella traffic is being filtered."

it then has the ok button but it wont go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!fw continues to load and share all 2326 of my files but until i figure out how to make this stupid thing go away i cant get my music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bangh::bangh::ba ngh::bangh::bangh:

HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

As much as I can ascertain, you have a firewall issue. You said in PM you'd been thru the forums, if that were the case then you'd have read the forum rules about supplying your details, which is also requested in the information & suggestions listed in the FW & LW connection problems post. :)

It really does get tiring having to ask people this System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) when it's already in the Forum Rules to supply these details in your post. We can't help without them. ;)

This wretched internal error message is showing up every day ; is there some way of getting rid of it permanently ;???

runt66 December 11th, 2013 02:56 AM

Frostwire 4.21.8

massive number of uploads from host 82.16.55.81 ;

should i block this host and is there some way to work out what port the bot is using ???

Lord of the Rings December 11th, 2013 02:58 AM

That's not a known bot ip from my knowledge. I'll see if I can find a utility for you to find ports connected hosts are using.
Which program are they using?

Winmx i think .

Lord of the Rings December 11th, 2013 03:51 AM

How about using Run, type in command & enter.
Type in Netstat into the prompt & enter.
That will give you a list of all connections. Find the ip address of the one in question to find its port.
There's no doubt better ways but that's what I can find for now.

runt66 December 11th, 2013 05:55 PM

That is very good ; i have opened up fw and will reply when i have trapped the host .

Lord of the Rings December 11th, 2013 06:49 PM

Likewise an unrecorded ip. Did you find their port number?

runt66 December 11th, 2013 06:51 PM

So is that port 33266 ??

Lord of the Rings December 11th, 2013 06:57 PM

It tends to look that way for the port, but I am not experienced with Netstat. Both those addresses are from different countries (UK & USA).
Whenever you come across strange greedy behaviour like that where they are trying to download 'everything' they can, (1) ban/block their ip address in the program you are using, (2) report them to me, perhaps privately via PM if necessary.

Something I reported 12 months ago in a private section of the forum was that after I blocked certain main ip ranges of the UK, I no longer received 'any' spam (with the rare odd exceptions). I was not sure of the co-relationship between the UK and elsewhere but suggested something there. I did that as a test btw & was not a permanent block but lasted 2-3 months.

And yes I found UK to be a high percentage upload sucker for files in a similar fashion. (this was the very reason I tested the blocks, but had no idea it would have such a side-effect to block out spam also.)

One issue is that some hosts might be using proxies and return with a totally different address the next day, perhaps an address originating from a different country.

I haven't been thinking much on this topic for a while because it seemed not too many people were interested in the blocklists I was putting together which took a lot of my time to do overall including the analysing, checking for static or dynamic status, comparing, adding to initial research lists and then if necessary to multiple output lists, etc.

Same program again , winmx 5.1.0 ;

is that relevant or important ;??

Lord of the Rings December 11th, 2013 07:42 PM

I suspect you see a co-relationship. ;) A google suggests there was a 5.1 update in October however. Though it's called the WinMX Free version which sounds suspicious to me.

When I tried to download a copy of it, all my WinMX Music connections vanished. Purely coincidence I know.

Lord of the Rings December 12th, 2013 05:40 PM

Sleepless has not tried this but suggested Wireshark · Go Deep for checking hosts & ports. I tried the Mac version & found it a little complex. But there are online How to do's if interested. There's an obvious learning curve involved with it.
You might be just as happy with Netstat instead.
