sbg900 connection issues Hello. Ever since i got a new modem i am unable to connect to limewire or frostwire. I uninstalled limewire and switched to frostwire but it's a no go. Here is the requested info: 1. OS version? Vista and yes, am the administrator 2. What firewalls you have? I think all are off. I can't find any that are on. 3. How much ram? 1gb 4. Hard Disk space available? 150 gb 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? SBG900 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It works 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Nope 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem, used for years 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP is enabled 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) McAfee and yes, firewall is off. Off in windows too 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA Thank you so much in advance!!!! |
Firstly, try these tips: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link); (equivalent for FrostWire; if using the newest FW which I suspect you are, follow the LW 5 directions) :) I'd like to see if the problem is the program or the router. I am aware many people do better port forwarding the SBG900, but let's see if it can connect properly otherwise. Also, are you running the SBG900 in wireless mode? I'm not totally sure about the SBG900, but it does have a firewall section. Perhaps changing this to a lighter setting might help. :) |
yes i am using it wirelessly (is that a word, LOL) |
haha it is now if not. I was actually editing my post when you posted back, so double-check it. :) Oh .. forgot to mention, log in address for browser should be 192.168.100.1 for the SBG900. Click on Firewall tab & see what options you have. :) Make sure UPnP is enabled also. |
still a no go and i can't get the gnutella file to work on the one site and the other requires you to register |
ok i did two things. deleted the gnutella file and went to the log in address you gave. i swear i have been there a million times and there were multiple options for the firewall but this time there was one saying "none" i clicked that one and it finally worked. wooohooo!!!!!! Thanks! |
hmm not sure 'none' is a good idea however. You do need some protection. I'd have thought minimum or something similar would be better. :) But great to hear. ;) |
