Phex should work fine with Java at least up to version 1.8
(Version 1.5 is simply the minimum version of Java for this version of Phex.)
You need to register and be logged-in at the Oracle java site to be able to download old versions (or access the downloads pages):
https://www.oracle.com/java/technolo...downloads.html (version 1.5 also referred to as V. 5) Scroll down to the jre- versions about half way down the page.

Or https://www.oracle.com/java/technolo...downloads.html for the general list of java versions where you can also find jre-1.8.

Good to hear. :) If you are using a linux variation, Phex can also run with Open Java (the open source version for linuxes.) But you might need to change the system pointer for which version you wish active as the default. It's been many years since I've needed to do that. But if Oracle Java works then remain with that.

I'm not sure about the Oracle archives of old versions but as a general rule you can set your language for the Oracle website to the one that suits you if your browser does not do it automatically.

I was half-asleep and about to go to bed when I first answered your question 8 to 9 hours ago.

Personally I would recommend to download Java for your system from here:
https://adoptopenjdk.net/

Not tested with Phex though...
