Default Phex Feautres

Sorry if there is anything wrong with this post... im n00b at Phex.

Gotta say, so phar (get the grammatical pun) so good. Phex runs great and looks cool. Im impressed for a Java app

Just a couple of things to ask:

1) When does Phex get GWebcache support - GregorK you posted on the Gnucleus forums (which I play a prominent part in) and told us that your planning for it.

2) When does Ultrapeer support get put in... it made a HUGE difference and Gnucleus definatly runs for the better with it.

3) Do you have any plans for GNet compression... gtk-gnutella has done this and its users say it rocks.

Thanks

It will come in the next release. Tests are already running.

This might take a little more time. We are working on it and have it on our list.

There are no plans yet. My personal opinion is that the cost for compression is to high compared to the savings. And Ultrapeers would already dramaticly reduce bandwidth.

okay... thanks.

I was asking about GWebCache and Ultrapeers because GWebCache, as I understand it, only stores Ultrapeers in its mem. THis means that Phex needs to support Ultrapeers before GWebCache right? i spose not because you know what your doing...

Also, I was thinking Inter-Ultrapeer traffic should be compressed... thats what Gnuc hopefully will do.

When im an ultrapeer I have about a 5k/s stream between me and other ultrapeers and it would benefit a lot from compression... not so much with leaves thouigh.

nice program.

Hi,

At first Phex will not store it's own IP in the GWebCache since its no Ultrapeer and it will only update the GWebCache with URLs of other GWebCache server.

Also Phex will be able to understand and connect to Ultrapeers. This way its able to benefit from the returned hosts of the GWebCache. Even if its not able to be a Ultrapeer itself, currently.

I see. I never thought of just having a non-ultrapeer capable but still conect-to-ultrapeer system. Im damn stupid then.

Thanks for the clear-up... il be watching
