I assume you dont need any kind of SOCKS proxy to reach the internet. In this case you can completely turn SOCKS off and therefore there is no need to authenticate to SOCKS proxies.

Maybe you should tell us more about your network and firewall environment. Are you using Phex at home with a simple router with integrated firewall or are you in a complex company environment with multiple proxies, firewalls and restrictions...
